Hello everybody,
This is my first post on College Confidential, so I thought I'd take a second to saturate in this precious moment...
There we go.
I have recently completed my transfer application to Florida State University, and just wanted to get some opinions on my probability of acceptance.
First question: With a cumulative GPA of 3.27, will I get accepted into the English: Editing, Writing & Media major? The cum. GPA may be a little low, but that's because of my first semester at University of North Florida (I got a 1.5 GPA in the summer semester, and promptly left to get my AA at a State College; my AA will be completed Spring of 2012, just in time for the summer semester for which I have applied). At that State College, my local GPA is a 3.61, and in conjunction with my previous 1.5 GPA, my cumulative GPA, as stated above, is a 3.27.
Which brings me to my second question: Will FSU admissions look at individual grades rather than the overall GPA (basically acknowledging my efforts to raise that horrific GPA to what it is now).
Any response is appreciated, and a simple yes or no answer to the above questions is more than enough...
Thanks again for the time.

I cannot tell you anything with certainty, as I’m still in the admissions process myself, but I posted a question on here a little while back about my chances as a transfer. I will have my A.A. and a 2.8 Overall GPA. Everyone told me that I will be fine and provided personal examples of getting in with a similar GPA. Therefore, you are more than fine! I don’t know if that major is limited access or not. If it is, that would be your only barrier. I’m also a Summer '12 transfer. Good luck!

Hey I am also a Summer transfer with AA. My overall GPA is 2.8 as well but usually is above 3.0… (just had a bad semester) is there any word on when we hear back? Freshman just heard yesterday… I applied to other schools too and they all want my Fall 2011 grades before they can make a decision…FSU doesn’t need my fall grades to make a decision tho… So not sure if that’s good or bad lol… Good luck guys!

From what I’ve heard, there is no set date. I actually spoke with admissions on the phone the other day, and because I am graduating with my A.A. at the end of Spring, they can actually wait until my Spring grades post to give me a decision. I’m really hoping that is not the case, as that would leave a 2 week window between me graduating with my A.A. and the start of the summer semester at FSU. Best of luck to you! What other schools did you apply to?

Im applying for summer 2012 also. Im apply for somewhere in the english department. I have a 3.0 overall gpa and a 4.0 prereq gpa. Im really nervous I want to get in so bad! rejection would kill me.

Oh man I hope they don’t wait till Spring, that’s when I’ll have my AA as well. I applied to UCF, FIU, FAU, FSU,MSU,NYU and USF. I was accepted at FAU, FIU ,MSU, NYU. I can’t afford to live in NY tho and I’m originally from MI so most of my credits are from MI- which has made it extremely hard to transfer within FL… it makes no sense as to how I can get into NYU & MSU but not FSU or UCF…? if FSU, USF and UCF reject me I’m heading to Michigan State!- even if it means heading back into the cold lol

Being that AA students have priority admission, I am led to believe that people may have a little breathing room when it comes to GPA. I applied to four schools: FSU, UF, FAU, and USF. And I must say, you guys have boosted my confidence greatly.
Best of luck to all of you.

amandaaven82: No, English is not limited access at FSU, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Congrats to EileenM for getting into NYU, by the way! New York is a cool place.

My gpa is a 2.9 I have applied to UCF, USF, FSU and UF… Still waiting to hear back…

Hello all. I have also applied to FSU for the summer 2012 term. I do have my A.A. and a gpa of 3.8.
I applied to UF for this spring term last year (already having my A.A. and around the same gpa), and I was indeed rejected. All prereqs for my major were complete/last was in progress.

The A.A. doesn’t guarantee anything more than at least one acceptance into a single state university- I would recommend applying to as many that offer your major unless you have a 4.0!

OP: Your chances may not be that bad, depending on how FSU looks at the UNF term gpa. But I’ve read so many times that adcoms care far more about trends, and if this happened long ago then the 3.6 is likely to be the deciding factor they go by. Getting your A.A. this term makes your chances far greater too. Just make sure you have absolutely every course completed/in progress on the academic mapping site prior to junior level (term 4), or you will be rejected on that basis alone.

Best of luck.
