I go to a school in upstate New York (SUNY New Paltz) and by the end of this year I will have completed one year of college with 46 total credits (I had a lot transfer from APs). I want to transfer to FSU but if you are transferring as a sophomore they say you need to follow the freshman application guidelines, which require 4 years of math in high school. I took three. But i took a college algebra in two semesters at SUNY New Paltz (college algebra A first semester, then B the second one). Will they accept this as my fourth year of math? Or am I screwed for applying to FSU?

Thanks!

Normally the fourth year in high school math will consist of calculus 1. Florida is known for being stingy with admissions from out of state universities mainly because they have much stricter requirements for transfer admissions then other universities on their level. For instance I was accepted to Boston University but denied to FSU the same semester because the admissions officers decided that my 2 english classes didn’t fulfill their requirements for math major transfer admits.

In your case If they have your transcript and application I would call them on Monday and ask if the two algebra classes fulfill their requirements. The worst that could happen is they ask you to take a math class over the summer (probably calc 1).
