Hi, I’ve decided to stay in state for college because I qualify for Bright Futures but I can’t decide on which college to pick from, so I was hoping that maybe someone could give me some advice? I’m thinking of majoring in Information Technology if I go to UCF/FSU or Digital Arts and Sciences (DAS) if I attend UF. I’ve heard a lot of great things from all three schools but I wanted to know first hand what any of you thought of these colleges? especially in regards to the major I’m thinking of pursuing
Some background which might help (maybe) is that I plan on getting my masters in Human Computer Interaction out of state, I don’t really care much about how good of a sports team the college has, I plan on studying abroad for at least a semester in China and most importantly I want to attend a college that is accepting of poc and lgbt students.
Thank you, I appreciate any help you guys can give me!
Your choice of which one you like best. Apply to all 3 and see who gives you additional money (that you can use for room and board or pocket). Personally, I’d pick FAU or USF because I like the beach, but I know people who love UCF (I just don’t get it) and people who hate Tallahassee.
UCF is sometimes free for the very top students and its only 30 minutes to Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic side. UCF requires internships to get a bachelors degree.
Gainesville might be best though if you want to get into a top human/CS degree at say Georgia Tech. Where do you want to earn your masters degree? You should take some CS classes as an undergrad and psychology.
I want to get my masters at the University of Washington or maybe Cornell if I’m lucky enough. Also I qualify for the Top 10 Knights program at UCF that would give me more of a guaranteed admission and I live in Central Florida which makes it alot cheaper to attend but I’m not sure if their academics are strong enough for STEM. Also thank you for the advice, I think might just major in Computer Science and minor in Psychology as I think it’d teach me what I need for HCI.
UF is a very highly ranked and regarded university as far as other graduate schools recognizing your degree program. Gainesville will cost more but give you a leg up to get into UW Seattle. Are you planning to pay cash for the masters degree?
UCF is gaining in rank though, so do consider if you need to save money for your masters degree. UCF is also in the thick of Orlando, a big advantage for jobs over Gainesville and Tallahassee.
UCF is very very large but still a good school. The campus is lovely near Oviedo, its truly a super nice area of Orlando. Restaurants, walking paths, lots to do in Orlando and the beach very close by.
I really like the UF Gainesville program because it will teach you data structures and many good CS skills such as programming .

The IT program at UCF is more focused on systems IT which is less programming and more about getting systems up and running.
You will probably be more challenged at Gainesville if you can afford that school and can get into the program. Good luck!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the help, the link you sent me was actually one I had bookmarked and considered on applying to. Also thank you for bringing up the IT program at UCF, I really want to enter a program thats primarily programming so I think I’ll try going with UF (if they let me in) instead
