FSU vs. FIU math depts.

I'm transferring to FSU or FIU to finish a BS in math. Which one has the better undergrad (pure) math program?

I don't know anything about the specific faculty or math-related extra-curriculars at either school, nor do I know where graduates tend to go from FSU or FIU. Anyone who has experience with either department and who can provide information related to class sizes, interest level, community and activity, these answers would be MUCH appreciated.

I've had to make the transfer because I just can't afford the school I'm attending now. When I graduate I'd like to go the the best possible graduate school for pure or applied math.

I’d suggest Florida State easily.

FSU - student to faculty ratio: 20.5 to 1
FIU - 26 to 1

FSU - US News Tier 1 rated - top 50 national public university
FIU - US News Tier 3, unranked national public school

US News ratings:
FSU 2008 national overall math graduate program rank: 70
FIU - not ranked

FSU more current general rankings: [FSU Highlights](Rankings | Florida State University)

A family member received a math minor from FSU with a major in meteorology. He then attended Georgia Tech for a masters. Typical, I’d say.

Good luck with your decision.

Without question FSU

I also think FIU may be ranked Tier 4 (which is the lowest for the National University category).
