Hello I’ve applied to FSU YSP for the summer of '18 and I was wondering if anyone has gotten any acceptances yet. Feel free to share stats, ECs, etc.
The only test I put down was my PSAT score, a 1440. I have taken four AP tests: AP Stat (5), AP US Government (5), AP European History (4), and AP Language and Composition (4). I have a 4.0 GPA unweighted.
I am heavily involved in Blessings in a Backpack. I raised $30,000 for Blessings to feed kids in my county. I am treasurer of Incite Club, which raises awareness of women’s rights and fundraises for our local women’s shelter. I have been playing piano for four years. I come from a very small suburban town, so I do not have prior research experience. However, I did express my profound love for Computer Science in my essay.
Both of my teacher recommendations were probably very good, as I am very close with both of them. One was from my AP Calc AB teacher and the other was from my IB Chem teacher.
I think my essay was pretty good, I spent a lot of time perfecting it.
If anyone else would like to share their info please feel free! I hope if I get in that I get to meet you in person!

I applied! I haven’t gotten any notification of my status yet though. Wait, were we allowed to have two recommendations from our teachers?
Here are my stats:
1460 PSAT (750 math, 710 reading)
5 - AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, AP World History
4 - AP Calculus AB
I’m currently taking the full IB diploma as well as AP English Literature and AP Computer Science A. I don’t have any prior research experience but I have a lot of background in science fairs and other science competitions. I won 1st in a statewide competition recently, and have placed every year at the State Science Fair. I also won an award at the international level.
I also applied for computer science, and I thought my passion for the subject came through in the essay.I have a lot of leadership positions in STEM ecs (math club, FRC team, MIT launch club). My recommendation should’ve been pretty good, so I think I have a shot. I really hope I get in to meet you in person as well!
@guccip Btw, are you in north or south florida?
Also, please let me know if you receive your acceptance so I know when the decisions are being sent out.
D went last year…awesome program!
@akinsc That’s great! Do you know which of the classes she took and whether she enjoyed them?
Physics & Cal. And yes she did. The research project was such a great opportunity to work side by side with professors and grad students. And the group had a lot of fun in the after hours as well. Good luck to you!

@cerulegeo You sound like a qualified applicant. Have you received a decision yet?
omg I’m so glad you guys replied lol I thought no one would
I am from North Florida–St. Augustine actually!
It was required to have one teacher recommendation, however, another one was optional
@esperantist @cerulegeo you guys are so qualified omg I’m scared… I really hope I get into the YSP program because my other option this year is the UF SSTP which isn’t free like YSP but I feel like you guys will get in
@guccip I got into UF SSTP as well, but I don’t want to attend because of the cost…I’m hoping for YSP.
@esperantist Same! I had a friend who attended YSP last year and she said it was really fun… i hope we get in
@esperantist I had emailed the YSP office a couple weeks back when the sstp deposit was due asking when YSP decisions were to come out… They said that they try to get the decisions done by April, but I know people who got their acceptances in March last year so we’ll see…
Needless to say, I ended up putting the deposit down just in case
