Who hasn’t had some on the side? really i think it’s dumb we destory the careers of politicans just because of his personal life. i honestly don’t care what he does in private as long as does the job the voters gave him and does it well. actually i’m not too upset about this current scandal, seeing as how im a raging liberal

It’s logical because if a person can’t stay honest with a person they’ve committed their life to, how are they going to stay honest to their constituents?

Not that politicians are generally honest anyway…

Whoever said the GOP has no chance in '12, you are mistaken. Obama will go the way the economy goes. If the economy bounces back strongly, and the infrastructure reform of the stimulus bill pans out, and the GM eco-incentives work, he will be locked in. If things get worse or remain the same, or if nothing in the economic rise is connected to his policy, he is a sitting duck. I really hope he has time to get his health care stuff through though, its about damn time.

And as for Republican “family values” I am getting so sick of them. At least its toned down a bit. I can see myself swinging to the conservative side economically (and I’m already there on gun rights for the most part) but I will never, ever be a family values conservative.

politicians will philander.

Leave their personal life out of it. In an ideal world their person affair should not affect their integrity in office.

Apples and oranges. Different things

It’s hard to not ridicule a Republican when they do something immoral, for obvious reasons.

^Except that a lot of people lack basic reasoning ability in this country and vote based on personal likability.

That’s true. People tell me that I am fanciful too much. I guess not everything happens in my own little world

If you claim to be a Christian and are willng to abrogate an oath sworn before Lord God, how can you be trusted to fulfill your oath of office?

Oh yeah, being awol for several days from your job will get you fired from almost any position.

It will be interesting to watch the spin, stonewalling, lies, denial, and disavowal unfold.

South Carolinians should be thrilled. Maybe now they can get a real governor in office. Bottom line is Sanford is an idiot and his argument over the federal money was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. There’s a reason South Carolina has the countries’ worst public schools.

Not sure if this is addressing me when I said “Not sure if the Republicans will have a serious chance in 2012 anyway.” You basically just elaborated on what I said. Right now, the Republicans could not get much lower, but a lot can happen in 3 years. But a big player is the media. It will be interesting if Obama gets the same treatment from the media a year or two later from now, or if they will turn on him.

Sadly, all celebrities, public officials, and generally people who are in the visible scope of the public and to a wide audience need to be wary of their actions.
The argument goes that celebrities and public officials should have sheltered, private lives and that they can do whatever we can because they are normal humans.
However, when they took up positions or roles that exposed themselves to the media and to a wide audience (regardless of choice), it is imperative that they keep this in mind. Just because Miley Cyrus is a “regular teenage girl,” it doesn’t mean she should smoke cigarettes and take pictures of it, because she has to realize that there are thousands of children and teenagers that are being exposed to this experience.

I recognize my personal bias in this, but I feel that we as a society should stop allowing the people in the media and public limelight to do whatever “normal” citizens can do, regardless of how it reflects on the audiences.

I still don’t understand the title. “Fudge?” Does this have any effect on you?

Forgive me, I sort of laughed. I think the governor is crazy. He just dissapears and there are copters searching for him and then he pops up and says " yeah, I was too occupied with this beautiful woman who is not my wife…" What was he thinking? He probably should have stayed missing.

Politics have a huge impact on what we do in day to day life.

Governor’s personal relationships =/= politics

Yes, but now he will probably resign or be forced out because of his trip.

However, perhaps some aspiring politician, not yet corrupted by the political game, looked up to this man, and held his actions and behaviors as guidelines.

And he’ll be replaced by another Republican governor with the same platform.

Yes, but do you really think they will be exactly the same? Everyone has an agenda, and hopefully for people in SC this one won’t go AWOL.
