So, I recently found out that another student from my school applied to Yale SCEA. We have comparable GPA, SATs, and rank. However...I have heard rumors that the student completely lied on her application. Apparently she made up her positions in various clubs and sports teams and listed awards she did not win. I'm nervous that she will now get accepted over me, even though I was 100% honest and did not lie/exaggerate one bit on my application. She is known throughout school as a liar and a cheater who has multiple problems with teachers. Alas, the admissions committee will be blind to that fact when reviewing her application.

Is there anything I can do without being immoral? Or should I just hope they see through her extremely padded application?

There's not much you can do unless you want to contact the admissions office and tell on the person, but I don't see how that would solve anything.

Well the problem is, I think half of the things she listed were outside of school, so she listed them on her resume and the teachers probably included those in her rec. But maybe not, I'm not sure.

It just sucks to know someone might get into your first choice school over you because she cheated her way to it. :/

it doesn't seem like she could get that good of teacher recs if she's been lying all this time. and if she gets in and you don't, you should definitely send them a letter or phone call.

As tempting as it might be, under no circumstances should you contact the admissions office. First of all, you have no first hand knowledge of her deceit. The rumors may be based on truth, but in all likelihood, her deception has most likely been exaggerated. Any action you take will NOT reflect favorably on you. It will only be seen as self-serving - which it is.

Try to remain focused on the fact that your teacher recommendations and gc recommendation should speak to your character. If this student is not respected by school personnel, that will become apparent in a letter of recommendation. Teachers are usually very good at "damning with faint praise".

Stay above the fray. You should not even get involved in the gossip at the local level. Why are you even discussing someone else's app with other kids? If you are someone who aspires to Yale you should be someone who does not perpetuate this type of discussion. If someone approaches you about her and volunteers information, be the better person and tell them you don't want to talk about anyone's applications.
