I am hoping that some knowledgeable parents can help me out here. My D is working on an application for a Fulbright ETA position. Her school is being very supportive about recommendations and general advice, but one thing they haven't provided is examples of successful applications (an application is a one-page grant statement and a one-page personal statement).

Does anyone know where she might be able to find sample application statements? Or if anyone has a kid who received a Fulbright ETA position, might you be willing to share (either the statements or some general advice)?

Right now my D's plan if she doesn't get the Fulbright is to go to law school, so I am really hoping she can put together a successful Fulbright application!

If you google “statement of purpose” you will find some helpful tips and examples that might help with her one-page personal statement.

There are also a number of threads on writing these for grad school here on cc in the grad school section. Maybe one of them will be helpful. Here’s one, for example.

I’m pretty sure these forms are downloadable to anyone. I also called various other universities who’ve all been very helpful - just have your daughter ask around and do google searches. The help is definitely there! Good luck!

MidwestMom: There are lots of pages with good general advice, but she is having a hard time actually applying the advice. For example, how do you explain the value of experiencing a different culture without sounding cliche?

AmbitiousMind: Thanks for the suggestion to call other universities. Also, sending you a pm.
