Fulfilling R&C Req?

Is it true that rather than taking a regular English R1B, taking some other class to fulfill the second half of the R&C req is easier?

I've been browsing around and I'm not exactly sure what the consensus is, and why.

I’m also interested.

This totally depends on the GSI and professor you get for your section. Some GSIs will never give you an A (or even A-) unless you’re that brilliant and artful while some GSIs give it to you like a Christmas present. It just happens that many GSIs in the English department kind of reserve giving out A’s, but that doesn’t mean English R1B is harder than other R&C courses. Regardless of grade distribution, you will have much reading to do for any department’s R&C. I guess my point is, just b/c you take English R1B doesn’t mean you have less chance of getting an A – just hope that your GSI is a generous grader…

Any thoughts on Crosson then, UpMagic? :P

So do teachers outside the Eng. Dep. tend to grade easier?

Tends to, but that really doesn’t mean much since you can always get a harsh GSI even in German R5B or Scandinavian R5B which are known to be the easiest R&Cs. So rather than counting on your luck, I would go to the department’s website and see which topic does each section focuses on and pick the section that has the most interesting course description to you. Even though they’re all under the English R1B umbrella, each section has a different topic. I mean, chances are, you’ll get a better participation and probably a better grade if you pick a section that interests you.
