of course go for Emerson - it's free!

what he/she said.

Emerson is a great school in a great city. Right on the Boston Common!
What's yr major?

Transfering, 2010, Writing for film

ARE YOU KIDDING? USC OF COURSE!

Just compare the two colleges. Choosing shouldn't all be about money. Think about academics and look at the jobs undergrads get out of college. USC is more Hollywood oriented and East coast schools like NYU and Emerson is more Indie. Definitely go to USC.

I'm going to Emerson as an Undergrad Freshmen. I plan on transferring to USC the second I can.

A colleague of mine at work was looking at schools with his son who was interested in film as well. USC was also their number one choice.

I would think USC offers a huge advantage simply because it's closer to Hollywood. They probably have connections that would give you access to internships and other exposure to the industry.

Find out what alumns are doing at both schools. I would have to believe USC places their students into better jobs in the industry than any other school in the country.

If you can afford it, go to USC. Best for networking.

It is a rare event indeed for anyone to get a free ride from Emerson.

Emerson isn't all that bad for networking either.

I would say choose Emerson.

Emerson is well known - very favorably- on both coasts.
Free ride= $40,000+ times 4. What extra can you do with that money -- not having to pay that after school- with interest??????
Is USC really worth giving that up?????
Plus Boston... is the best college town. Where Emerson is- right on Boston Common in the heart of Boston- is incredible.

This thread marysmom dredged up is from last summer and the OP has presumably already made his/her decision.

I'm currently a senior at Emerson, and while it does have its pros and cons, you will be golden when you go out to LA. If you mention Emerson in any film, TV, writing, or theater circle... they will freak out (in a good way). This year, I got a job working ShoWest in Las Vegas, and mentioning Emerson helped in the business card department. Also, the kids are nice, the school definitely has a solid writing program, and while USC definitely has a better campus (it was my first choice too) getting a full ride to Emerson is SO RARE! So, yes, both are good, but if money is an issue and you want a good reputation come job searching time, Emerson is a great school!
