<p>I was wondering if getting the full International Baccalaureate diploma is really that important. Of course, my teachers and counselors are urging me to reach for it. But since you get the diploma at the end of your senior year, you will have already been accepted by a college. So what's the difference if you have it or not?</p>
<p>Well, you'll be an IB Candidate for the diploma when you apply, so why not stick it out?</p>
<p>Yeah, I know that colleges will know that I'm a candidate. But I'm saying that colleges won't really care if you do get it in the end or not. They've already accepted you, so they can't just reject you because you didn't have the IB diploma.</p>
<p>You shouldn't do it to get into college; AP can do that just as well. IB prepares you for college. The essays you write and extra assignments (Portfolios, Group 4 project, EE, Internal Assessments, etc.) are GREAT preparation for college. My freshman year of college was easier than my senior year of IB, and most of my friends said the same thing.</p>
<p>Probably you don't have to get the full diploma at the end of the year, it of course will not change the decision of the college, so I guess the choice is up to you.</p>
<p>If IB is the most challenging curriculum in your school, then stick with it. If your applying to top-notch schools, and get good grades, colleges are gonna wonder why u didnt take IB.</p>

<p>I'm in IB currently, senior year too.
My view: At this point it really has gone beyond the point of using IB to get into college, but rather as something I can say 10 years from now that "Yes, I completed one of the most demanding courses for high school offered."</p>
<p>Maybe it's just that I've spent 3 complete, now 4th year, that I would HATE it to have spent all that time for nothing.</p>
