how many actually is paying the full tuition amount out of family pocket? my parents advise me not to apply for aid since it will significantly lower chances, and they say they'll be willing to pay everything. i just think it's such an obscene amount (enough to buy an S350 here).

do u know of any non-university scholarship sources or anything? where the deadline hasnt arrivwed? a few thousand would help greatly already. my home country? don't count on iot.

you should check out finaid.com or something like that. you should find some scholarships that fit you. don't know of any in particular.

Sorry, I have no idea about scholarships coz I'm only applying for financial aid (grants, jobs, loans). But if you're applying for need-blind universities, it won't hurt to apply for financial aid.

I'm not applying for aid.

I would suggest that you apply to some colleges based on rolling admissions without financial aid (eg, UT Austin, UIUC, UMich). After you secure a place at a reputed university (like the 3 mentioned) then apply for financial aid at the other private universities.

Does that make any sense?

um how does that help?

Well the idea is, after you secure a spot at a good reputed state university (which are cheaper than most privates) you can risk it and apply for financial aid to all the other universities on your list.

Umich is about the same price tag as private ones, unfortunately. :( the only rolling one. and i have no idea when i'll receive a decision. if it's after dec...?

University of Illinois (UIUC) and University of Texas at Austin are also rolling decision and pretty easy to get into for intls.
