Full ride at 3rd or 4th tier college

Does anyone know of any 3rd or 4th tier college in the US that offer full ride scholarships to international students with high ACT score

UA-Huntsville does…

What is your ACT and GPA??

However, keep in mind that “full ride” scholarships do not cover travel, health insurance, and personal expenses. As an int’l, you’ll have to show that you have those costs covered.

K. Thanks for the info. Is a score of 30 and a 3.5 GPA enough?

‘personal expenses’. Pls, can u expantiate more on it so that I can know all what it include. Pls the question might sound dumb but I think full ride is going to cover boarding+feeding+tuition and sometimes books

Look at Momfromtexas 's threads on full ride scholarships. With your profile, you will get a lot of “hits”. You then have to check each one to make sure that international students are eligible for the awards.

“Full ride” is a term that can mean any number of things. My son was offered “full ride” at a CUNY. Nice but it did not cover transportation or room and board, as CUNYs tend to be primarily commuter schools.

What schools have is an official Cost of Attendance (COA) which is the average amount it costs for a student to go to the school under a number of situations. The COA is often different for boarders vs commuters vs those living on their own off campus. It does include AVERAGE tution, room, board, fes, books, travel, miscellaneous living expenses. Personal expenses are things like soap, deodorant, tooth paste, eyeglasses, fun items like going to a movie, getting a new pair of gloves, etc. You do need some money for some of those things, though not all, and it can vary widely from person to person.

thanks mam 4 the useful info. I am afraid of selecting ‘higly competitive’ schools cos not all eligible students are eligible 4 admission in those elite schools. Please can I get a list of inner-city colleges that offer full ride 4 us applicant so that I can contact their financial aid office if they accept international students.
I have contacted Antioch College but seem not to offer admission to international students that’ll be entering by 2013. I’ll apply for adimission to the college as an intl students but I dnt know how competitive their admission/scholarship is

Actually, its not that I want to attend a school that is less rated or something but since the scholarship competitions are extremely tight at elite colleges it kinda leaves me with no choice than to look for scholarships in inner-city colleges

Because things change year to year, especially availablilty and amounts of scholarship money and policies, you have to do your search yourself or someone has to go through the step by step of doing it for you, something I am NOT going to do. Read Momfromtexas 's thread and her methodology which will tell you how to search for schools where there are merit awards for which you are eligilble. Her sons did not have the strong academic profile you have, and yet, she got a number of “hits” Then you have to investigate each school as to whether the awards can go to international students. I think a lot of them will. Also, you will get schools of all selectivities in doing this and you should also apply to some other schools that are selective, even highly so and see how you fare. There are some schools that are need blind in applications and meet all need even to international students. The catch there is that they are highly selective, but there is no reason why you should not add a few to your list. Then there are school that are selective but have some nice merit awards open to everyone, and again, though the odds may not be good, you can give it a go. The only schools that should definitely be off your list are the ones who specifically deny any aid or merit awards to internationals. There are some at every selectivity level. But there are also schools that welcome high stats in any student, international or otherwise and are willing to pay for them, and at every selectivity level as well.

Your term “inner city” for colleges does not really say what you mean. Some of the most selective colleges are considered “inner city” like UPenn, COlumbia, NYU,U Chicago, …the list goes on. Harvard and MIT are not out in the suburbs. A lot of very nice colleges are in some not so great neighborhoods and there are colleges with open enrollment in some high income zipcodes. There is not a relationship.

You also have a lot of choices. Too many, actually. The problem is that getting money is always difficult and if you are an international student, getting US funds is particularly difficult. But, again, your numbers are such that I think you will find some choices.

Some people think “full ride” means “full tuition”. If it’s just tuition then it’s a “full tuition scholarship”…not a “free ride”

Full ride scholarship generally means “tuition, room, board, books, fees.”

However, a “full ride” at a " need met school" can mean tuition, room, board, books, fees, transportation and personal expenses…the entire COA is covered for a poor student.

An ACT 30/GPA 3.5 is not high enough for a free ride at the schools that I know about. However, it can get you a good sized scholarship at some schools.

What is your major?

HOW MUCH will your family pay each year? If they will pay $15k+, then some of those schools will work out.

Thanks mam for your prompt reply.
I understand your expository points thanks alot. The American GPA is on a scale of 5. Am I right? An average Nigerian cannot afford $10000/year but I have plans for all that because immigration services, transportation and the likes are going to cost me about $10k but I can afford more than 4-5k during subsequent years. Do I have a chance?

Federal work study is for U.S. citizens or permanent residents only. Also as an international student, the number of hours you can work at any job will be limited.

Thanx 4 d pieces information. I’ll work on it… I have contacted antioch college, Ohio but it’s kindof they’re not admitting students next session.

Pls hope my GPA is okay for a scholarship. Maybe I’m going to rewrite the ACT by April. I know that 36 is a nice score but what score should I work towards?

Antioch is a school that has been having severe financial problems. They are not likely to be interested in funding a high need international student is my take on it. You ask what score you should work towards? Well, perfect of course. The higher your score, the better your chances. I suggest you work with what you haEve right now and you can add a few more options IF your ACT score goes up. But for now get a list of schools that are possibilities with what you have on the table. You can always add.

Antioch is providing full scholarships to all students admitted in 2012, 2013, and 2014 while they restart the college. [Costs & Financial Aid - Antioch College](http://antiochcollege.org/admission/finaid/)

“At this time, Antioch College regrets it cannot accept international students.” [Application Process - Antioch College](http://antiochcollege.org/admission/process/)

However, those scholarships are excellent resources and great information for this board for those looking to include such options and are non international students. The school is currently not accredited so students cannot get Federal aid and loans to go there.
