Full Ride at Pitt vs. UVA? Please help

If this person is going to go to law school or business school, then THAT school’s prestige is going to matter…not the undergrad.

It’s not like he’s choosing between UVA and some regional/directional unranked school for undergrad.

Yeah. Well grad school in some area will definitely happen. So long as the discrepancy in the reputations/prestige of UVa/Penn and Pitt will not significantly hinder my chances of getting in to said grad schools (law, business, or MS in engineering) than I’m going to save my money and go to Pitt.
Most people are up in the air as to whether or not prestige plays a large role in grad school admissions and I’m finding it difficult to get a straight answer. I’ve always been a good test taker (35 ACT lol) so I’m not concerned about GMAT/LSAT/GRE

Prestige does not play a large role in med or law school admissions. The only reason you’re getting mixed responses is because you’re in a forum frequented by many hs students. Most of the people in this thread in favor of the full ride appear to be parents or in college while the few that support UVA look to be in high school. If you were to visit some forums dominated by college students and grad students you’d get a straight answer: the members pretty much overwhelmingly emphasize that it’s GPA and LSAT/MCAT that matter most and the name of the school is a minor factor. As long as it’s not somewhere no one has heard of you’ll be fine.

Pitt.

Law schools admit on LSAT score and GPA.

My own son took a full ride at a university (over full tuition at UVa and another top choice he had). We will likely paying for law school, etc…

PITT! i got the same scholarship from them, +4k/year engineering. i cant give it up. said no to Vanderbilt for it

I just saw a presentation given yesterday by an MD who is a top doctor in his field (200+ publications and counting) who was a PITT undergrad. Didn’t hurt him.
