What does it take to get a full ride in merit money at UChicago? Does anyone know someone who knows someone who got merit money?

They DONOT have a full ride program, they have a merit scholarship that pays the tuitions, but not the room and board. I believe only 10 each class. What takes to get it? Lets say if you get merit scholarships from HPYM, then you might be talking.

Won’t happen as these schools only give need based financial aid. They do not offer merit aid.

Ok, my mistake. So, lets say you were accepted by all HPYMS, then you might be talking.

Since UChi only gives a small number of full tuition scholarships, it’s safe to guess that those few students are badly wanted…maybe for super high stats or maybe ethnic diversity.

As far as I know, no one on CC during Chicago’s last admissions cycle received a full tuition scholarship (highest other than mine that I saw was ten thousand); I didn’t know Chicago offered that. I received fifteen thousand per year in merit aid and had excellent objective stats.

silverturtle, you’re my hero!

I think UC is need only. I don’t think they award money based upon merit. Most of the Ivy’s and near-Ivy’s have this policy. The thinking is how do you distinguish merit between those that are the small sliver of the cream of the crop academically.

UChicago offers merit scholarships, including, I believe, a full-tuition one. I happen to know someone who received merit money. But they are awarded based on the faculty’s subjective judgment of who they would really really like to teach.
