I'm applying to several colleges, four that are quite good (Yale, Duke, Wash U, Brown), OSU for in-state cost, and UVa and BU. I'm hoping for full tuition at the last two.
Here's the question: which universities in the Northeast (or by a city like Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, etc) offer full scholarships and have decent reputations and amenities?
I'm looking for a school that will get me a good job and that is good enough that I won't mind turning down Ivies.
Common App, easy supplements, and rolling admission are all good things :)
I'm a national merit semifinalist if that helps.

Pitt might be a good choice, but you should apply immediately.

The University of Chicago has a handful of full tuition merit scholarships (as well as an EA application option) but getting one is a real long shot. Davidson College gives much more merit aid and is a bit less selective than most of your other choices. Grinnell is another excellent LAC that gives a lot of merit money. I would not say either of these schools is very likely for a full scholarship, but you might get enough to make a big difference.

UVa does not really give merit aid. There are very limited Jefferson scholarships but they are handled outside the university. There may be some limited scholarships for URM’s but I am not sure of that.Financial aid is need based for the most part. There is AccessUva if you are very low income. That would be what would provide you with financial help at UVa if you qualify because of income.

??? As sevmom says, getting full tuition at UVA is highly unlikely.

Your title says “full ride”…that means tuition, room, board, books. Is that what you’re looking for? Since you’re a NMSF, there are several schools that will give you huge scholarships for that…some are a bit short of being “full rides” but include tuition, housing, and other goodies.

What is your situation?

What are your stats?

How much will your parents pay each year?

What is your major/career goal?

Northeastern has good scholarships for NMSF. Also USC, but it isn’t in the northeast.

Fordham has quite a lot of money available for NMSF/NMFs – at least full tuition, on a competitive basis.

New College of Florida offers $17.5K scholarships to NMFs.

You might want to look at a couple LACs, though you’re primarily interested in universities. In your own state, for example, Denison offers a massive $35K scholarship to NMFs and is an excellent school.

U Rochester is also usually fairly generous with merit aid.

Keilexandra has compiled a very helpful list of schools offering significant merit scholarships to NMSFs/NMFs.

Sorry about UVa, guys! I meant Ohio State and BU, I just listed them in the wrong order. I did apply for Jefferson though…
I applied to Fordham and Northeastern (and Alabama, dear God!)
My stats are good. 2330 SAT, 5 solid subject scores, 8 5s in APs including Calc BC and a self-study (and I’m taking 5 more). I’m a straight A student of course. I volunteer a lot, ride (horses) 15 hours/week, have a black belt in tae kwon do, run a productive Environmental Club, participate in academic summer programs (last summer was in Oxford), do some minor campaigning and a few other things. I’m fairly boring but otherwise a perfect candidate for most schools.

My parents will pay nearly everything if 1) we sell my house and 2) my Dad finds a job that pays at least half of what he was making before. That being said, I have two siblings and grad school aspirations so I’d rather save that money even if it was available.

Careers and majors are a little fuzzy. Different schools take me in different directions. If I go to Ohio State, I’ll do business, biochem, and pre-vet. If I go to BU, I’ll probably go into the teacher’s school. Duke or Wash U would result in a Neuroscience focus. I’m also toying with the idea of going into politics. There are a lot of specific things that interest me but not very many broad categories that I think I would like to pursue single-mindedly.
