* Some have income caps as high as $180K per year now. *

Yes, about 3-5 elite schools…HYPS and maybe an elite LAC or two have such high income caps. These few schools give Super Aid.

However, that’s not true for most privates. Someone with an income of about $125k will have an EFC of about $32k.

My family’s income is $80,000, but our assets put our EFC over $50,000 when my dad filled out the FAFSA for my older sister. We really can’t afford to pay $50,000, which is why I’m looking for other options.

I’m starting to like Alabama more now. I also realized that Fordham and Northestern both give full tuition for National Merit so I’m looking at those. Also, I have a friend going to Denison University that loves it, and they give great aid.

Any other ideas? My dream school is an Ivy like Dartmouth/Brown/Columbia or a liberal arts college like Colorado College/Amherst/Pomona, but these schools all give mostly need based aid (and are really tough to get into, obviously). I’d like schools that could offer similar academics, maybe in an honors program, but with good merit based aid.

*mom2collegekids: What do you mean Tuscaloosa isn’t very “southern”? Is Tuscaloosa a nice city to live in? *

Yes…Tuscaloosa (aka T-town) was voted “Most Livable City in America”…

Glad you’re considering Fordham and Northeastern. Both excellent choices. NYC and Boston are great for college life and internships.

another school in alabama that offers full ride to NMF is UAB uab.edu 11k undergrads, 17k students total… Tier one research university, urban campus.
