Full ride scholarship?

I am currently studying in Houston community college. I am planning to transfer to UTD. I was wondering about this "full ride scholarship". Does full ride scholarship only include tuition? or does it include everything? Does this only apply to freshman or transfer applicants too? And what must i do to get this "full ride scholarship"? I am an Texas resident, with an average GPA.

i got my scholarship from UTD about a week ago.
mine covered full tuition plus $1500 per semester towards housing!!

How did you get it? Do you need to fill up any paperwork? Or they tell you when you get admitted to UTD? May i know whats your grade?

after you get admitted they will send you your scholarship information a couple of weeks after that.

you dont need to fill any paper work inorder to get it!! good luck!

I also got my full tuition paid, plus $1500 towards housing and an extra $2500 stipend. It’s based on academics, I suppose, since I probably wouldn’t get need-based aid from UTD. Based on the website, though, transfer students are treated differently:

aww, sucks. littlejess, that means i cant get like your aid huh?

Hey everyone-I received the full ride, $1500 per semester housing but without the stipend.

I’d be curious to know stats on those of you who get the full ride. My son is a junior and is interested in being a physics major. He’s also nationally ranked in chess for his age, though he’s not as good as some of those on the team at UTD for sure. His SAT was 2320, GPA 4.0/4/6 and he’s got a few national level honors/awards and more state and local ones, as well. He’s also 1/2 Puerto Rican. He’s expressed some interest in UTD because of the chess program there and we are very familiar with a church in the area, as well.

At any rate, just curious about who gets the scholarships. We’ve gotten several mailings from UTD regarding scholarships. My son’s also interested in some highly selective schools, too.

Last year I was told the minimum needed to get full tuition and the housing stipend was a 1325 M/CR on the SAT. Additional stipends were awarded based on how much higher than that number you got. My friend, who got a 35 on the ACT, received the maximum (full tuition, $2k housing stipend, $3k stipend) scholarship possible.

With a 2320 it’s safe to say that your son will get everything they have to offer.

I received a full tuition/fees plus 7k a year. My stats were 4.0/4.5, 35 ACT, rank 1/340, NMSF. Now that I am a NMF my scholarship should go up 1K per year. I strongly suggest you look at the McDermott Scholarship. I came in too late to apply, but it sounds like your son with his chess interest would be a great candidate. I have also been accepted at some highly ranked schools (ivy) but UTD is very high on my list. Best of luck to your son, he sounds like he has amazing potential.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. It sounds like there are some great students accepted and/or attending UTD.

Snowbound, it sounds like you are an incredible student! And it also sounds like you’ve got a challenging (but ultimately good) choice to make. I’ll hope to follow up with you and see where you decided to attend.

So can someone find out for us, a clear answer, is it true that transfer students cannot remotely can these amazing scholarship full paid packages? Is that true?
