Full ride / Scholarships at Ohio State?

Hi! I’m in in-state senior and am really interested in attending Ohio State, but the cost is a big factor for me. What kind of scholarships do they offer? I’ve checked the website, and I’m struggling in finding relatively concrete amounts of money. I do know of Morrill, but outside of that, I don’t fully understand their scholarships; I asked my counselor and he didn’t really know either.

Also, how selective are each of the scholarships? I’m especially interested in the Morrill Scholarship, but I’m not sure I fit the demographics; otherwise, I don’t even know what to apply to.

For reference, I’m an Asian-American girl interested in studying computer science and economics. I have a 35 ACT, a 4.00 UW GPA (~4.7 W GPA on a 5-point scale), a 1570 SAT, and I’m a National Merit SF. What should I be doing to get as much merit-based aid as possible? I likely will not qualify for much need-based financial aid.

Thank you so much!

Did you go here: http://undergrad.osu.edu/cost-and-aid/merit-based-scholarships
The site says that they will consider you for all applicable scholarships when you apply, then also lists a few that have additional application requirements.

Have you run the Net PRice Calculator for OSU for yourself? That would give you a ballpark as to how much merit aid you could expect.

It lists several merit scholarships and their amounts.

I know two students from our high school who got a full ride, in state, so it is possible. One had a 36ACT, not sure of the other, she definitely excelled academically though.

I think you’ve done all you can with your work in high school, it’s great, so just keep researching scholarships and applying. The OSU site also linked to external scholarship sites.

The Eminence scholarship is full cost of attendance. My son received it and is at OSU now. It seems like a great program which provides extra opportunities and fosters a sense of community. https://honors-scholars.osu.edu/honors/eminence/apply. You need to submit general app by Nov. 1 and Eminence app by Nov. 9. Good luck!

@“Kathy V” Thank you for the link! May I ask what it’s like? And how selective is it? Trying to balance out quite a few scholarship applications right now

They have changed up the application, timing, etc a bit this year. My son had very high stats (as do you), but wasn’t quite as strong on service and leadership. They invited 70 to interview and 20 got the scholarship (they may have offered more than 20). Now that he is there, the program has requirements like a group service component, retreat, meetings, etc. but all of these benefit the students. They get special treatment in terms of faculty advising/mentoring and other opportunities as well. It seems like a great program that fosters community among the group. Eminence Fellows have to maintain a 3.4 gpa, be in the honors program, and live in honors dorm. My DS feels very lucky to be in the program. It is definitely competitive, but worth a try for someone with your resume. Hope this helps. Good luck!

@“Kathy V” Thank you so much! I will definitely be applying!

Let us know how it goes!
