Is it true that if you have a 32 ACT and above a 3.7 GPA you can get a full ride to Alabama.

I live in St. Paul, and have previously been focusing on midwestern schools like UW Madison, Notre Dame, Northwestern, and the U of MN, but then I heard this somewhere on here and I casually mentioned it to my parents and they got excited and told me to look into it more. I was kind of surprised because previously they hadn't wanted me to go further than the Chicago Area.

I just want to confirm if this is true or not.

And by the way, how is the academic reputation at Alabama. I have heard it is improving. Would the Honors program there be as good as the regular courses at Madison? I'm planning on majoring in economics.

Thanks.

No, not a full ride by definition of “full ride” or at least my definition. 32 or 1400 will net you full tuition, but you still have to pay room/board.

I’m also trying to get a 32/1400, partly to get free tuition at 'Bama. It is a better school than people think, especially in the North. I’m thinking of Econ/PoliSci. Good luck.

If you are a NMF, then you get a full ride but free tuition is still really nice.

Free Tution is still great!! And by the way, do you have any more specifics about economics. I would love to here about it.

Does anybody know of other schools like this that guarantee full tuition for certain numbers?

okay cool, any others?

Yes, with your stats you’d get free OOS tuition worth over $80k. How did you do on the PSAT? Are you also a likely NMF? If so, you’d get free housing, too.

The honors college is great. There are 4 different programs: 2 programs admit by stats (yours are fine) and 2 programs admit by competition. The 4 programs are: University honors program, International honors program, Computer-Based honors program, and University Fellows Experience. The last 2 admit 40 students per year - avg ACT 33.

Check out Auburn as well. They have a Presidential Scholarhip very similar to Alabama. I am also from Minnesota and our D got the Presidential for full tuiton plus extras -$1500 for technology and $4000 for study abroad. They also have a new program next year that students can take an extra three credits per sememster for no additional cost. For out of state students looking to graduate in four years, this is a very nice perk. We were very impressed with the college as well as the town. Our neighbor graduated from Auburn and loved it. We also looked at a lot of Minnesota colleges and only the “U” came close to Auburn’s deal. She got the Maroon and Gold at the U which is their top scholarship. It is for $12,000 for year, which covers tuition for this year, but not quite enough for 2010-11. As tuition continues to rise it will fall even further behind covering the cost. That is why Alabama/Auburn’s full tuition for four years is a better deal.

Auburn requires an ACT 33 for that scholarship…and it’s not guaranteed.

*Competition for these scholarships is keen, and consideration does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded. *

It is not guaranteed, but Auburn said everyone who has qualified the last two years has received the Presidential.
