As the title says, I’m trying to find an university that still looks out for students
and offers a scholarship that covers tuition and board for an international applicant.
Or, an university that covers tuition only and offers on-campus employment.
I have all A grades except two B grades in four years of high school and my SAT score is
R:720, M:710, W:620).
Now I can find an university fullfiling one or the other requirement, but not both.
Any lead on how to search effectively or any suggestion about a particular university would really
help.
I applied to an university and relied on getting a 1490 R+M SAT score to get a scholarship.
My results arrived today and I had a 1430 Math and Reading composite score.
I have no way of paying the 20k tuition of a typical university without the scholarship, so I’m left
stranded.
Yes, it is an option, probably the best one. They told me I could postpone my application for spring 2016,
however, I still have to ace the SAT (again) which is a gamble. I’d rather avoid it if possible.
The worst thing being, If I had any idea what I could have gotten with my score, I’d had applied to some full-ride
university.
The thing is, I’ve heard that transfering credits from Croatia’s colleges to an American college typically results in the applicant having to do freshman courses all over again. Which makes no sense because
the curriculum is harder, especially in Computer science. But it doesn’t count. Which means I’d rather do an associate degree in the middle of nowhere rather than that.
If you are looking for a full ride to the US, you need to take a gap year without studying anywhere, and apply for Fall 2016. You will not get good financial aid if you are a transfer applicant. (Not to mention that lots of people who transfer from one US college or university to another end up having to re-take all of their classes, this isn’t just an issue with Croatia.)
Here is the thread to look at: http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/
Check each website carefully. Some of these scholarships are available for international students.
mom2collegekids has an excellent suggestion. Send an email TODAY to Mississippi State Univ http://www.msstate.edu/, and the University of Alabama at Huntsville http://www.uah.edu/ They may still have space and money for this fall.
That would actually make you a transfer student which would mean you wouldn’t qualify for freshman merit aid. Don’t take college classes after HS unless you don’t need the aid.
Thank you for the replies, I really appreciate it.
It would have worked probably.
I just don’t have the financial backing to do it. If I take a gap year I loose my health insurance (provided by Croatia to all regular students) and the right to work through the student service provided by the university.
Interestingly enough, that is the cutoff for the top scholarship at UAH, which a number of posters have suggested.
I don’t think UAH is going to take a student or award a scholarship this late. Class started 2 weeks ago and the last day to add a class was 25 August.
