Full Rides for National Merit Finalists/Scholars

Purdue's Indiana Resident Top Scholar Award (full tuition and fees for 4 years for in-state students with a preference given to National Merit Semi-Finalists) can be combined with other Purdue scholarships to result in a nice package. My daughter got an additional $9,500 over 4 years right out of the box with no scholarship application required. Not a bad beginning to this process.

University of Central Florida covers all expenses, automatic admission to Honors College (20 student cap on classes, preferred registration, etc.) , laptop, etc., etc., and the scholarship is not amended even if you get other scholarships. FL residents can get the Bright Futures (state program) which covers tuition and fees, and still get the full ride merit scholarship in addition. Hard to ignore this one.

FLVADAD, will the UCF National Merit scholarship covers every expense that an OOS will incur, include tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees?

Not FLVADAD, but Cybermom posted this on another forum about UCF's Merit Aid.

Quite generous with OOS, as well.

Those applying to Montana State University in Bozeman, MT as non-residents that are National Merit Semifinalists/Finalists probably qualify for a $15,000 per year renewable scholarship. You can read more about the specific award process, but it appears to me that the funds are automatically awarded to those scoring 1450 or higher SAT (CR and M) and 33 or higher ACT (Composite). The $15k/year isn't a full ride, but it covers almost all of out-of-state tuition (~$16k/year). A smaller scholarship relative to in-state tuition is available to MT residents with the same qualifications ($2.5k/year for ~$5k/year tuition). This scholarship is nice because t doesn't require that you advance to finalist standing; it is only dependent upon SAT scores. Here is the link:

Utah State University in Logan, UT also offers a scholarship to National Merit Finalists that designate USU as their first choice with the NM corporation. I couldn't find the scholarship on their website, but I have been in contact with their admissions office and they provide full tuition and fees + $1,000 per year. Here is a segment of one of the emails their admissions office sent me after I inquired about any awards granted to out-of-state NMFs:
"Students who are National Merit scholars qualify for 8 semesters tuition
plus $1,000 cash per year if the student lists USU as the first choice
with National Merit, plus a possible research fellowship/stipend."
Again, not a full-ride, but still pretty significant.

Colorado State University also offers a significant scholarship to National Merit Finalists. Those that designate CSU as their first choice are automatically awarded the $6k/year Presidential Scholarship (out-of-state) and most would also receive the $2k/year Honors Scholarship for participating in the University Honors Program. Read about both scholarships here:

Too bad that out-of-state tuition is about $18k per year. Nobody said college was cheap.

I forgot to add that Montana State also gives anywhere from $750 to $2000 per year to NMFs, depending on financial need. That is in addition to the other scholarship, provided that your SATs are high enough to qualify for the $15k.

My NMSF daughter just received an offer from Oklahoma for $82,500 plus a $1,500 laptop allowance and a $1,500 travel stipend. Apparently this is OU's standard 2008 offer for non-reisdent NMSFs. Too bad my daughter isn't interested in Oklahoma.

Ditto that!

Do anyone know if you can qualify for more freshmen scholarship with Oklahoma in addition to the NMF scholarship they offer? It seems that some school, like Baylor, the NMF scholarship will be the maximum merit scholarship you are going to get from the school, while some other schools allow you to compete for additional scholarships. I wonder if Oklahoma is one that will allow you to get more.

Check the website:

htk - or anyone else who might know - when did your daughter find out she had received the Indiana Top Resident Scholarship? My son is a National Merit Semifinalist and has been accepted at Purdue in the engineering program. The literature says that no application is required and that National Merit finalists are given first preference. I'd really like to know what his chances are of getting this scholarship. Purdue is his number one choice school (by far), but with all the other offers coming in the mail I'm torn about encouraging him to look around more at other possibilities. If Purdue comes through with money then there's no doubt that's where he'll go. I'd just like to know how likely it is that he will get the award and when he would know about it. Thanks.

She actually got 2 scholarships. The first was a Purdue Academic Success Award for $9,500 (over 4 years) and then a few days later she received another letter about the Indiana Top Resident Scholarship (tuition and fees for 4 years) and a third letter telling her she could combine the scholarships. These letters came a week or so after the admission letter.

HI. does any one know the cutoff score for national achievement in va ? thanks

yousef, you will likely have better luck posting on your question this thread:

Use the Search function on this website, it helps a lot.

thanks..I'll do that

University of Cincinnati has a UC/21 Scholarship which is offered to National Merit Finalists and National Achievement Finalists (50 scholarships each year) which guarantees in-state tuition and on-campus room and a $1,500 award for computer, study abroad or undergraduate research. It is met by a combination of UC scholarships and awards (worth more than $60,000) and includes an automatic invitation to the Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition (full tuition, room, board and a book allowance).

Here's another for the list... University of North Florida in Jacksonville. $20,000 over 4 years plus other perks on top of Bright Futures for NMF, NAH and NHS

Also, here is the new link for University of South Florida <a href="http://usfweb2.usf.edu/admissions/freshman_scholarships.htm%5B/url%5D">http://usfweb2.usf.edu/admissions/freshman_scholarships.htm</a></p>

ASU just increase its National Merit Finalist scholarship to $13500/yr. in-state and $23000/yr. out of state.

If I do become a National Merit Finalist, does anyone know what GPA is required by ASU or U of A to actually get the award? Is there a minimum. I have a 3.6 - a little low, but good test scores.
