As a current senior in engineering, I have a bit of technical coursework to go through by end of spring 2012. Do I wait till then to apply for full time jobs,or apply now and mention I am still taking courses (listing their content as well) and am expecting to graduate in 2012 on my resume? thank you.

You most definitely apply now.

What about the ones that list a a degree as a requirement?

You will have a degree by the time you start working.

In this respect, it’s not much different from applying to colleges. You need a high school degree to go to college, but you apply the year before. It’s standard practice to apply for jobs (and for companies to recruit potential entry-level employees) prior to graduation.

Thanks that makes sense.

Apply now, and expect to continue through this year with the dearth of jobs and wealth of applicants - it might take a lot of applications and interviews to get a decent job. I started applying in spring 2006 (in a much more pleasant jobs climate) only to find out that one of my preferred employers (a Fortune 100 company) had already filled their quota in the fall - even though they wanted me, they could not justify hiring me!

As ken noted, they will hire you based on your current standing, with the offer conditional on your graduation (and perhaps, occasionally, other more specific requirements like maintaining a minimum GPA). By the time I graduated I had 2 job offers and 2 grad school admits, and had already picked one. Between graduating and starting work I just had to send them a copy of my transcript showing that I had graduated.
