What do you think is the better option, assuming full-time M.S takes 2 years and part-time route takes 3 years? Is the yearly tuition same whether you're full-time or part-time student?

It depends on your situation:

What schools are you looking at?

What is the cost of these schools?

What is your field of study?

Is funding typically available in your field?

Will your school ALLOW you to go part-time?

What job opportunities are available in the schools’ immediate area?

Are these job opportunities related to your field of study?

Will the compensation from these jobs cover the cost of school?

If you pay by the credit, rather than by the semester, taking three years may mean a little bit more money because the tuition will probably go up in that time. However that should be more than compensated for by being able to earn more money and being able to retain your job benefits and workplace seniority.

It also depends on the degree program. I think working full-time while doing an M.Ed, an MSW, an MBA or some other professional program is totally understandable and a great idea. Working full-time while trying to do a more research oriented degree probably isn’t, especially since a lot of the courses are more likely to be between 9 am and 5 pm whereas professional programs are usually a bit more flexible.
