Hi guys, I'm wondering if UCs care about whether or not if you have a full time student status during most of your academic career in community college vs part time student status. Would having only part time student status hurt your chance of getting transferred to UCs?

It doesn’t matter. The only UC I’ve found that makes any mention of a caring about full or part-time enrollment in CCC is UC Davis and I believe that only matters for TAG.

Thanks!

Yes it’ll hurt. Colleges want to see that you are able to handle a full academic course load. They want to see that you are working as hard at your CC as a native student is at that particular school.

At most UC’s part-time status will not impact your admission.

Well in my opinion, having all your pre-reqs/IGETC done and having a good GPA are much more important than you being a full-time or part-time student when transferring. They are going to pick a part-time student who has a better grade and has all their classes done than a full-time student with a crappy GPA. UCs do understand that not all of us have that perfect life where you can commit yourself to school and have nothing else to worry. Some of us need to work and some of us maybe need to take care of their kids, a sick family member…etc. so I wouldn’t be so quick to say your chance will be hurt just because you are a part-time student.

No, it doesn’t matter. Courseload isn’t listed as a factor in the admissions process on the University of California website. I’ve also never heard of anyone being denied because they weren’t taking enough units every semester. You’ll be fine.

No, it is not a factor for admissions. Many cc students have to work to support themselves or have other obligations that prevent them from attending school full-time.
