How competitive are full scholarships at the University of Chicago? I'd love to go here, but I really cannot do so without making it a financially feasible option. It'd be very helpful to hear the opinion of someone who has received a full scholarship or knows someone who has. Thanks!

Unbelievably competitive, I assume. My D was accepted last year with 2380 SAT, 800 Math II, 800 Lit subject tests, pretty good ECs, very good essays, etc. She got a $5,000 merit scholarship. Isn’t attending, but I think the competition is VERY stiff. Are you saying you are not eligible for need based aid, but you need a full ride someplace? You might be surprised about U Chicago’s need based aid, it was pretty generous compared to other schools for my D.

If you need schools with good merit aid, here is a thread to look at:

Full tuition scholarships generally just don’t happen… there’s only one exception I can think of to this and it was in a forum for a past year. The person (for undergraduate admissions mind you) beat the average score of UChicago Graduates for the Physics GRE (or something like that) and got a full ride.

They can be fairly generous with need based aid though… I managed to get aid to cover about 90-95% of all my fees and costs the year.

UChicago offers two full-tuition scholarships:
https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/pdfs/police_fire_form.pdf, for children of Chicago police officers or fire-fighters; and https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/pdfs/cps_scholarships.pdf, for Chicago public school attendants.
I would think either of these scholarships would be very competitive.

Thanks you all for your help!

@intparent I’m not quite sure how much I would get for financial aid. I doubt it would be that much because my father makes quite a bit.
