Fullbrite scholarship

I am interested in applying for the fullbrite scholarship this year. Does anyone have any advice for psychological research grants via fullbrite? I’m not really sure how to narrow down one country from all of the options, but since it’s my first time applying I’d like one with low competition

Admissions statistics by country are posted on the site:

There are no Fulbrights (not FULLBRITE) with “low” competition if you aren’t totally qualified. Your college likely has an advisor on campus who helps students with competitive scholarships. That is your first resource. Find out who that is and email today. Also, you really need to work on the app NOW. You need to get feedback on your essays, which are critically important. The scholarship advisor will probably be asking for a draft in early August. Without doing your homework, you may not have a compelling essay. Without a compelling essay, you don’t stand a chance.

Just wanting to apply to a random country with no clear reason for doing so, other than it may not be as competitive as another country, doesn’t bode well for you. You need completely solid reasons why you want to do a Fulbright. I know a number of students who have won Fulbright scholarships, as well a number who have been rejected. I know a super qualified applicant who was a semi-finalist with a very compelling reason for wanting to be in that country. He wasn’t selected.

You have some work to do. Especially if you are looking for a research grant for a country such as Japan, as an example, you need a solid approach to what you are going to research. No one will make this easy for you. It’s a ton of work and you may end up with nothing to show for it. Be committed, have a plan, seek the help of the advisor at your college. Good luck.
