Fun activities/EC's outside of school that colleges also look up on?

I’m open minded. One of my issues is I just don’t seem to know what’s out there and I was curious if anybody here had any prior experiences in activities such as this. My interests include anything in the general STEM field, writing, and computer science/coding specifically. I would also love if any of these activities would be in the summer, and even better if they are competitions. I’m also willing to step out of my comfort zone. I already do some things at my school and plan to even add some things my school doesn’t have. I do know there are many things out there and I want to try them out for myself as a person and for colleges; I feel one of my major flaws would be my EC’s and in general I feel I need them for myself. Any suggestions on things I should do for this? Even advice on where to look for myself would be appreciated. Thanks for any advice. Questions are welcomed and appreciated.

P.S. - I’m an aspiring chess player, my brother taught me the game when I younger and I’ve decided to learn the game for real now

You could always start a club at your school that encompasses one of your interests. A really cool extracurricular I would recommend is teaching underprivileged children (or any children) how to write, use computers, create basic animations, etc. It gives back to the community and is also fun to do.

I like those ideas. I’ve already had the idea of getting a club started and I already know a teacher who would sponsor, I’m just trying to piece it all together. I also really like the underprivileged idea. Do you think I could start something of my own with it? I’d be genuinely excited if I could start something up with that because of how good that would make me feel and how good it would look for me as well.

You could check to see if any Division B Science Olympiad teams in your area want an assistant coach.

@superbowser12 Absolutely! Maybe you could put those two ideas together and have your club be focused on teaching underprivileged children those activities. You could pair up with a sister school and meet every 2-3 weeks. Even better would be that your club also fundraisers for the sister school, so while the children are tutored, they can also receive funds for infrastructure, better teachers, etc.
