Fun, friendly dorm room pranks

I figured I share some of the fun pranks I have done and thought up over the past 2 years Ive been at school. WARNING: these pranks are meant for close friends, too often you'll find that seemingly harmless ends up ****ing some overly serious people off because they take it as an insult.

Do not attempt if you can't take responsibility for the consequences.

Room switch-

Many college dorm rooms are symmetrical and have identical furniture on each side. When both roommates are gone, gain access to their room and simply switch everything to the opposite side. You dont necessarily have to move the whole beds or dressers, just simply exchange everything that is in sight. Move desktop objects, posters, bedspreads/ mattresses. Generally, unless you are extremely good friends with someone, it isnt the best idea to actually go through their drawers or closets. its always hilarious to see their reaction, not to mention when they end up being too lazy to move everything back. Warning though, this is a prank that you want to do with good friends and not with random people.

Post-it Note Mayhem- (my personal favorite)

Go online and buy around 10-20 post it pads so you have around 1000-2000 post it notes. You can buy a 12 pack for about 15-20 dollars and you will need 2-3 people to get this prank done in about an hour. First phase of attack, gain access to room when roommates are gone and begin my putting post-it notes all over the walls/ground/ceiling/furniture/bed/appliances. Any visible object in the room should have post-it notes on it. Second phase of attack, begin hiding the remaining post-it notes so that they will not be found for awhile. Good places to hide: under most objects (tvs, appliances), inside of clothing (put a few on the inside collar of a shirt or in the pockets of a pair of jeans), in appliances (microwave, fridge, freezer). This is a prank that will last for weeks or even months depending on how good you are at hiding post-its. Once again, a warning, this is a prank that is meant for you to do to a friend for fun.

Set up time: 1 hour
Clean up time: 2-3 hours

Newspaper avalanche-

Find a good source of newspapers or phonebooks and a fair amount of duck tape. Start pre-planning this prank early by measuring the dimensions of the prankee's outer door frame. Tape newspaper together to form a giant wall that easily covers entire door except for small slot at the top. Continue by crunching up remaining newspaper into small balls and put them into carrying bags (we used laundry bags), you will need a lot. This prank requires at least 3 people. Late at night (3 am), when roommates are both in the room and asleep, QUIETLY go to their room and tape up the giant newspaper wall to their door frame leaving about 5 inches of room at the top of the door. There should be a small gap between the door and newspaper wall due to the door frame. Tape the bottom of the wall to the ground and begin to slowly drop the newspaper balls inside this area until they reach top, this can make a lot of noise so try to be quiet. When finished, grab the rest of your stuff and either knock very loudly on their door (if you want to watch) or simply leave and wait for the morning mess. This is a fun prank that can be done without having to gain access to someone room.

Set up time: 3 hours
Clean up time: 1 hour

Once again, do not do these pranks maliciously, they are only for fun and friendly prank wars and shenanigans between good buddies.

Im inspired to do something like this when i get to college =P

Ahaha, I post-it’d a friends room ~a year and a half and some of them are still there. It’s good.

All those would be next to impossible in our dorms, unless you were someone’s suitemate, and even then it wouldn’t be hard to foil it. See, we have to swipe our IDs and enter a PIN to get into the actual dorm room. But we also have apartment-style dorms, so the bedrooms have doors as well, and those require a key swipe too. So if the people who lived there closed the door while both of them were gone, no one would be able to get in unless you wanted to climb through a window.

I’d do something in my apartment’s common room just for fun though. :D

HisGraceFillsMe-

Sounds like you have some heavy security on your dorm/apts. For the most part, when my friends and I did these pranks, we did them on friends who we knew left their door unlocked when they went to class. They were very trusting, and very wrong is being so lol. Usually you can try and persuade the suitemates to ‘help’ you out and join the fun by letting you in the room.

I’ve heard about one where you move someone’s bed like an inch every day until one day it’s in the middle of the room.

^ I like that one.

My freshman year, my roommate and I bungee tied our neighbors door to the door across the hall so they couldn’t get out of their room. We didn’t let them out for half the day. It was funny but cruel.

If you really want a malicious prank, get into their room with about 7 boxes of rice crispies or corn flakes. Starting from the back of their room, slowly spread a thin layer of the crunchy cereal over every inch of the floor all the way to the door. In they dont have a vacuum, theyre done for.

Some guys on my floor moved two other guys’ beds into the bathroom and bunked them on april fool’s day.

I remember in the Secret Life of Bees movie they had that Dakota Fanning girl kneeling in rice crispies as punishment. What does that do exactly? Is it really painful?

Its not painful rlly, I guess if you knelt on them it might be uncomfortable. for the most part its just a giant pain to clean up. Especially seeing as its covering the whole floor and stepping on those kinds of cereals just makes the mess worse because they just crumple into smaller pieces.

I saw that movie, I think it was grits she knelt in and her knees were all cut up and bloody.

I saw this thing about these friends fastening everything upside down in this guys room when he left for a few weeks. They turned the bed upside down and attached it to the ceiling, even the hangers in the closet with the clothes were upside down etc etc. It was awesome.

Here’s the real website for that last one:
[Operation relliM](http://www.lightsideup.com/)

^Oh, I’ve seen that before. It’s awesome. :D

Yeah, we do. Mostly because very few of the dorms have actual hallways, so anyone has access to the room unless the security is heightened. So not only does our ID swipe have to match, but each person who is assigned to the room has a different PIN to enter at the front door.

I’m sure we could figure out something if we REALLY wanted to, especially because most people don’t close their bedroom doors, but the apartment doors are heavy enough to close on their own. Basically we’d just have to have an in with the suitemates, which wouldn’t be too hard since all our friends live together.

^ here’s a big list of dorm room pranks. Ones I’ve thought of doing on my friends is the pennying the door one or putting clear candies in the shower heads. Whenever I get bored this semester these pranks are definitely going to happen :)

I read through a few and most of them seem more malicious than your normal prank…
“Duck Tape Shirt
Roll an entire roll of duck tape around your roommate’s favorite shirt. Go over and around the shirt with the tape 2 or 3 times or more. Be sure to not cover the whole shirt completely. You want your victim to be able to know that it is indeed his favorite shirt that is covered. He will have to take all the tape off his shirt himself, by hand. What an annoying thing to have to do!!”
“Stitched Shut
Take your roommate’s underwear and stitch the front fly on all of them closed so he cannot open them.”

Those aren’t funny, just really obnoxious

^Actually, the duct tape one really isn’t that bad…you can just cut it and then peel it off in one layer.
