If you were given the choice to go to UCLA as a regular undergrad and apply to medical school through the regular process or go to Lehigh University's BA/MD program and attend Drexel Med school after three years (and take the MCAT and score no less than 27, 9 in each section), which would you choose. I just want to hear different opinions and views on the choice.

The second choice...UCLA is nice, but a guaranteed spot in med. school (to some degree, depending on MCATs) takes off A LOT of pressure.

second choice...I'm also from California. This coming fall will be my turn to apply

I dunno, i mean the main pressure during undergrad years is MCATs and GPA, and if you still have to take the MCATs and score a reasonably high score and still have to maintain a high GPA, the only real benifit is that you finish a year early, right? Sure you dont have to feel pressured to do certain extra curriculars just for the sake of med school, you can choose to do what you want, but your condensing 4 years into 3, and you might have to double up on science classes as well.

What you are saying is true...but it is always nice to know that you're hardwork at Lehigh would be rewarded (you don't have a luck factor to determine admissions). Further, a 27 is not at all a high score these days...if you get in, you're probably good enough to stay. Also, if you went to UCLA you would push yourself to max (probably) to make sure that you attain a seat in medical school; however, at Lehigh, you don't have to worry as much about being the best (good is good enough). But, it is always good to try your best. In the end, it's all good if you get what you want out of the "college experience" - it's a once in a lifetime thing.

isn't ucla known for having a brutally competitive pre-med program?

good answer hydrogen3k. and yeah i heard ucla was brutal as well, foodisgood. I dunno though, i like LA, but i doubt i'd even get to enjoy the atmosphere if i was locked in my dorm studying all day.
