12,000 Posts! Like watching the odometer turn over in the old days. Of course as soon as you respond it won’t be 12,000 exactly any longer.

The “prestigiosity” thread is a real time-waster, but happens to be in the parents forum, so adds to post count. I almost feel guilty. Almost.

Why can’t Tulane’s home page look this nice?

It will, Idad. Take a look, they are previewing the new home page that will be replacing the current one soon. There is a banner at the top of the current page with the link, or at least there was 12 hours ago.

Thanks FC. It is an improvement, but still needs a little work. It needs to communicate a Tulane “theme.” Check out UChicago. The theme is a community of inquiry, and it runs through everything. Stanford’s is laid back intellectualism and “we are great at everything, including sports.” In contrast, UMiami communicates little other than sunshine, and oh, yeah we spend money on campus and you get get a decent education here as well. Tulane has the basis in its service commitment, but needs to intertwine it a bit more with the local culture and intellectual curiosity/academics. Tulane needs find an organizing experience. I believe it is there, it just needs to be communicated. I think the undergrad admissions page does do some of that. Now it is needed throughout.

I think you make a great point. Tulane’s seems clear enough, the interweaving of academics, service and New Orleans as you adroitly point out. It is still out there for comment, so you should definitely do so. I will as well, because A) I agree with you 100% and B) It is Business/Marketing 101. Well, maybe 301. Refine your mission statement, then let the public image of the institution reflect that statement clearly and methodically. It is there, just not as clearly as it could be, and not as completely.
