Function problem

<p>The figure above shows part of the graph of the quadratic function The graph intersects the x axis at x=-1 and at x=k (not shown). If the vertex of the graph of is the point (3,-4) what is the value of k?</p>

<p>I dont get what the question is asking, and how to solve</p>

<p>There must be several way to solve this problem but what directly comes into my mind is that the line x=3 is the axis of symmetry.
the distance between -1 and 3 is 4 (|-1-3|=4)
Thus the intersections are on both sides of x=3 ie. 3-4=-1 and 3+4=7
the solution is k=7</p>
