I'm about to finish my undergraduate degree in linguistics (generative)
now I'm trying to search for the top functional/cognitive linguistics programs available (searching on the web didn't help me that much)
Could someone please help me???

I’m afraid it has nothing to do with psycholinguistics. any generative linguist can work on psycholinguistics as well. functional/cognitive linguistics is totally another approach to linguistics, and it seems that there is no ordered list for these linguistics programs…

UCSD will come to mind first of all (due to Ronald Langacker)

Other scholars include George Lakoff, Charles Fillmore, which would mean Cal (Berkeley)

Generally, the east coast are all about formal linguistics, while the west coast is the home of functionalist, basically headed by the top UCs (Cal, UCLA, UCSB and UCSD: check out the linguistic or applied linguistic dept. of these schools).

Other schools worth looking into are Penn, Stanford, UIUC, Wisconsin-Madison, Ohio State and maybe Northern Arizona.

You might also want to consider on what basis a functional/cognitive-based linguistic program would want to accept you, given you were trained in formal linguistics.

In the SOP, how are you going to discuss what made you decide on a switch from a more theoretical model to one which is more steeped in empiricism.

What attempts have you made or how have you come to an understanding of functional/cognitive linguistic as being a path suitable for yourself?
