Funding College

Good day!

I want to increase my chances of getting into JHU or Emory by stating that I can pay full tuition.

Well, of course I cannot, but can you tell me what are the chances of attaining a student loan in USA.
I am an international student from Georgia(country) who will start college in fall, 2015.

How probable is that? And how wise would my decision be?
Does getting the amount of (if any) student loan depend on the institution and program I am enrolled in?
(This will be biomedical/biological sciences with pre-med if it makes any difference)

And lastly by what time I should or should have known more and started working on this? (I hope its not late)

-Thank you :)

Whether an international can get need based financial aid (grants and loans) from a US college depends on the college. A large number, including all public universities do not offer any need based financial aid to internationals. There are however, a number of private US universities, including Johns Hopkins and Emory, which offer need based financial aid to internationals admitted to the university. The determination of need will based on your family income (meaning usually mainly your parents income) and not just yours. A handful of provate universities offer fulll need based aid to internationals, see <a href=“Schools Awarding International Financial Aid”>http://www.internationalstudent.com/schools_awarding_aid/</a>, but most like Hopkins and Emory do not guarantee you will be provided enough so that your parents can actually afford it or that you will be provided any at all, e.g., Hopkins usually provides aid to only about 10% of internationals admitted).

Also, most of those providing need based financial aid to internationals consider the need for aid as a factor in determining admission and they require you to submit your application for aid, by use of the College Board’s CSS Profile or a college created form, at the time you apply for admission or possibly somewhat later than that. Start here for Johns Hopkins information http://pages.jh.edu/finaid/international.html</a> and here for Emory <a href=“Undergraduate Aid for International Students | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>Apply for Financial Aid | Emory University | Atlanta GA;

Also, there is the possiblity of simply getting loans offerred by lending institutions, see, e.g., the Emory link above which also has a link to a few such lending institutions, but what is required (such as a cosigner, collateral etc.) for those and when applications need to be made varies according to the lending company.
