From the article above: “Nicholas Jones, Penn State’s executive vice president and provost, told members of the House Appropriations Committee that the state’s largest state-related university is in the precarious position, anticipating it might not get any state dollars from the 2015-16 budget year. Last year, Penn State got $231 million from the state, about 6 percent of its budget.”
This is concerning, as tuition increases for all state-related schools is a possibility. To anyone attending Penn currently; is this an issue we should collectively be worried about?
Gov Wolf feels the walls closing in on him as members of his own party are pressing him to sign the budget.
Both the democratic and republican versions/visions for the budget supports the unprecedented 5% increase for state-related schools (after years of flat or reduced budgets). If no budget is passed it seems only fair that the in-state tuition break be removed or greatly reduced. After all, in state-tuition is justified due to tax payer contributions to state universities- which in the case of PA is dismal to begin with. If you are concerned call your state legislator’s and the Gov’s offices.
