Funniest way to announce a day off

Many prep schools have an unscheduled day off during the semester. It goes by many different names... Headmaster's holiday, Hill day, etc. This is one of the funniest ways I've ever heard of it being announced after a school meeting at Taft, the students were asked to stay and watch a short video on H1N1.. what they saw was this:

The Taft School - News

That was cool!

Very cool. I wish I could have seen the students’ faces as they watched it!

Very funny. Bravo!

For those who don’t know, Mr. Mac is how the student’s refer to Willy MacMullen, the head of school.

Siliconvalleymom… there were roars and cheers that could be heard towns away!

That was a great video!

everyone in the auditorium watching the video started screaming and clapping when Will Smith announced headmaster’s holiday :D

Will Smith’s kids are now a shoo-in for acceptance!:)

I used to go to Taft and I was pretty short too…

Maybe he would’ve mentioned my name instead of Toans :(

How fun! Thanks for posting the video. I’m sure Will Smith’s younger kids will be shoe-ins for Taft! But his son Trey already goes to a private high school outside of LA unparalleled for its college placements—for football players, that is. His teammates are Joe Montana’s son (QB, natch) and Wayne Gretsky’s son.

Our season opener at Kent was against Choate. Family Guy aired a rather inappropriate joke about Choate on the first day of preseason. Some people think it was for us, others think it was just a random thing… It wasn’t a day off but it was cool.

Haha at Andover, the headmaster comes into the dining hall on a random day in Winter Term waving a field hockey stick that an alumni class donated and everyone goes crazy.

Seems that Groton had one announced that involved a helicopter landing in the circle last year. Perhaps a student or parent could elaborate. I only read about it on the website. Seems a helicopter is, quite literally, “over the top.”

Lemonade1 I loved the article on Oaks Christian [ESPN Good times never stop at Oaks Christian -ESPN Rise FOOTBALL](<a href=“Aliyah Boston scores 27 to tie a career high, Fever close with late run for 91-84 win over Dream - ESPN”>http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/football/news/story?id=4483978) , I wish they played in a top division so we could see what they could do against some real competition. Oaks Christian has a light league schedule. Oaks need to move up to Division l or ll to get some competition during the regular season.

At Groton the surprise holiday is announced by an unveiling of a green sports coat. One unveiling did involve a helicopter with (I think) the head of school wearing the coat jumping out of the helicopter when it landed. The new head “presented” his new son to the school wrapped in the green jacket a few years ago. Many years ago I had the pleasure of ripping of an overcoat and unveiling the green coat while taking an “official” all-school photo. Very cool feeling to simply wear a jacket and send 350 kids into a mob-like frenzy.
