My math is 800 but my verbal is like 580... do i have a chance still?

Yes. Although low, the Verbal score shouldn't be too bad to keep you out of any school. Of course "it all depends on EC's" etc.

Just dont apply to the writing sems major

i was in a similar situation. i had 790M and 610V. i got into bme haha.

You of course have a chance. Make sure you have a good essay and a strong English/history rec, if possible. On the SAT, 600 is a tough cut off point.

well to add additional info, i have a very good teacher rec but a very bad Educational Counselor rec. Other than that I think i have a good ecs and all the other crap

what major are you applying for? that might make a difference...

i loved how you said funny... but yea 580 could hurt?

wow, judging on these posts jhu seems to very heavy on the math scores. what did you get on your SAT IIs? did you take anything writing or language related? if you got higher on that, that might increase your chances. also, is that your only sat score? most colleges take the highest score for each section out of all of them.

also, like rheasilva said, your major could make a huge difference, i think.

haha, sorry this post was kind of indeterminate

This would be true; lots of colleges do a composite score. If you've done better on another sitting, JHU may take the composite; you just can't report it as if you'd had the higher score in one sitting.

ummm its kinda not finalized. Ive been thinking of math or biomed majors.
my SAT II math was 790 and I also not a native english speaker so I took the TOEFL as well since JHU told me to take it. I got 263/300 on the cbt so what now?

nah fj
i got a combined 1530 on verbal and writing and i got into jhu
so im sure they take it into account SOMEWHAT

ah okay, good. no matter what people say i am still tricked into the whole "math and science ONLY matter at jhu" stereotype! crazy!

i also think that you will be given some slack because you aren't a native speaker... at least that makes sense to me, but im not sure what their "official" policy is.

as long as you show them that math and possibly science are more important to you, i think ull be fine.. i mean a math/science/engineering major doesn't need to write too well, u just need to be able to do math. plus, the fact that u took the toefl and didn't ace it (i had a korean friend that took it and got like a 297, which isn't terribly smart, i think, cause it shows you're too good to be taking it, most likely), adcom will see that ur english is fine for who u are
