It looks like Furman had a record number of applications for the Class of 2014. It is a very modest increase, roughly 1%, but it is better than a decrease, especially in this economic climate. I will be curious to see if the acceptance rate decreases from last year, where it jumped up to a high of 67%. Hopefully the yield rate will also climb. 2009 was a tough year to use as a measuring stick. It also looks like the anticipated number of freshman will jump again to around 720.

Does anyone know if merit scholarships have already been awarded to students who applied for regular decision?

Merit scholarship awards will come in the acceptance letter package you receive in mid-March ( unless that has changed since 2008). The only exception I can think of would be students under consideration for major scholarships like the Hollingswortth, Lay, or Townes, where I believe on campus interviews are required.

Good luck to you-Furman is a wonderful school with exceptional academics and great quality of life for students. Dr. Shi, who is retiring, has put Furman on the national map of LAC’s and Dr. Smolla, the incoming president from Washington and Lee will only increase Furman’s national profile.
