Also applied EA, but my counselor never sent my school report D: EA notifications come in February 15th, wondering if that’ll effect me.

I think that schools are more understanding if your HS college office is slow sending things in. They want to make certain that the student gets materials in by the deadline.

For you guys who applied ea, do wish you’d applied ed? I was too nervous to when the application was do but i sooo regret it now

Well not really… i mean of course ED applicants have an edge to get accepted, but idk what they’ll offer me in terms of financials and that’s a big deal for me… I want to go to medical school after so cost is really important.

And on top of that, I’m not from SC and never visited so I wasn’t going to bind myself to a college I never even seen in person :D

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the EA results?

I applied EA and I am glad I did. I couldn’t commit financially to any institution. I have a 3.72 GPA and a 1910 SAT score. I don’t know if you guys got this too, but i received a handwritten note from my regional admissions officer talking about my application and saying he/she would be in touch in the future. Not really sure what that meant but it made me feel a lot better. I am getting super anxious for the decision release date. Wish they didn’t use snail mail though.

You need to visit its absolutely gorgeous. Best looking and best kept campus I have visited.

I went there for a week this summer, and then did another overnight in the fall…it is perfect. I felt so at home. I applied EA too because I can’t commit until I get financial information, but I’m really going to try and make it work. I have a 3.6 and a 1920, but now I’m a bit bummed I never got a letter…however the person who was responsible for my region left in the middle of the year so I’m not really sure who has me now… Is Furman anyone else’s number one?

chelssd32… I am torn between Furman and Clemson, if i get into both. I got into Elon and UNCW but those are my safties. I wouldn’t be worried that you didn’t get a note. I know my counselor really well and have met around 5 times and are in constant contact. We seem to be right about the same in regards GPA and SAT scores. I just sent an email to my counselor today to ask if the EA’s will be sent out earlier and I will post when she replies.

Let me know what your counselor says!

Mom of two 2012 grads here. Remember that Furman is score optional and the school is making a major push for regional and ethnic diversity. The stats for the admitted class of 2011-2012 are on the website under Institutional planning and Review-follow the link to the common data set. I don’t know what the regional admissions counselors are telling students, but the financial aid now available appears to be less generous than when our kids began in 2008. There is a scholarship for alumnae kids, and the names scholarships are worth applying to if you are in the score/GPA window. Your counselor from Furman can guide you on this. Also, if you know what your intended major may be, consider contacting theh chair of that department to see what his/her thoughts are on your application as well as scholarship funds for that department. I would also encourage you to find out from your perspective major and or career services how Furman is doing placing grads in respective career fields for both internships and jobs. In this economy, many of our kids’ friends opted for grad school instead of facing the tough job market. Be proactive-the more contacts and information the better. Good luck and always ask for help on this board from Furman parents/students/alumnae.

The admissions counselor said it will not be out earlier than Feb 1st. That being said on that day we will be able to check online via either the status checker or engage furman. I am hoping that I get in and get some serious aide!!!

Furman received a huge arts grant last year and it seems quite a bit went into scholarships. My son is a music performance major/spanish and received a very nice music scholarship with a “Paladin Award” tacked on. With these scholarships (note no need based), We came out about $1000.00 cheaper than his other option (UNC-Chapel Hill instate) when factors such as food, parking, housing were taken into account. The scholarship renews for up to four years. His obligation is to maintain over a 3.0 (he had no trouble doing this) and to play in the various groups where he is needed.

He is very happy there and notes that there were quite a few other new out of state music folks like him. He has many more playing opportunities than he would have available at a big state school (couldn’t do both jazz and classical). At Furman, he’s in the jazz band, principal in orchestra and plays in a jazz combo. He also has made money on the side playing as a substitute in a SC orchestra and playing parties in a jazz band.

As a parent above mentioned, I would check into scholarships via the department you are interested in. My son was very straightforward in his audition when they asked him how much he needed to make Furman a reality. He said “You have to be the same or less than UNC”.

I can’t believe this Friday is the day all of us who applied EA will find out! Good luck to everyone! Did anybody apply for the Merit Scholarships? When do you think we will find out if we get selected for the interview weekend? Also, does anybody know anything about the interview weekend?

hh1115- two years ago if you applied for the named scholarships (Townes, Hollingsworth, Duke and Lay) you found out when you received your acceptance letter. However, that was two years ago before Furman had EA. The scholarship days were held in March and April. Two different days depending for which scholarship you were interviewing.

Best wishes to you, Furman is a fabulous university.

SO excited for the decisions to come out tomorrow. I spoke to an admissions counselor today and she said that the merit scholarships as well as financial aid packages wont be sent out until early march. Best of luck to everyone!!!

Ugh I am more nervous about the scholarship information… but the decisions are being emailed out at 5 pm! Good luck all!

Will the decision be available before 5pm tomorrow via engage furman or status checker??

the tweet said we will get an email with instructions for the status checker
