The Merit Scholarship Day at Furman is March 20 this year, four weeks from today. So I would guess that the invitations would be mailed out at the end of this week.
My son received his invitation in the mail yesterday.
The Hollingsworth and the Townes Scholarships are the same. One is offered for in state residents and one out of state. The value, the stipends and the perks are the same. Duke and Lay are full tuition and full ride.
The value was incorrectly quoted upthread and I wanted to clarify.
FYI: the Lay full-ride scholarship has been discontinued.
@mommamocha The amount stated upthread was the amount of the scholarship last year. They are equal this year, last year they were not.
@vandygrad87 May I ask where you are geographically (i.e., in what state or region you live)?
@Dixiepup We are in the Washington DC area.
@carolinamom2boys - I have two children who are Townes scholars and have a good grasp of the numbers. They have always been the same. In 2015 the amount was $25 per year for both, in 2016 that amount was increased to $35 for both. This was done to keep pace with the increase in cost. The two scholarships are the same, the only difference is the out of state and instate.
I wanted to simply clarify so that when families are looking at Furman they have a grasp of the numbers.
I’m sorry @mommamocha that is not the info provided to us at the interview day last year. Clearly , we were given inaccurate info. There are also more instate scholarships available than OOS.
