We just discovered Furman on line and have received information. The seem to have a nice campus, good Chemistry program, and you can study abroad.
But with reach schools like UNC and Duke in the area, what should someone from the Midwest make the trip to visit. What is the reputation of this school?

I had never heard of Furman either until about 6 six years. It has a regional reputation of being a very good school, but it does attract students from across the country as well. I had a coworker that was an alum who was originally from NY. It's somewhat selective, but not as much as UNC and Duke. If you're visiting UNC and Duke (and work the excursion into your schedule), it might be worth 3 hours drive south. I think they offer some merit aid, too!

Theres lots of info on the Furman page. If you are going to see Duke, UNC is about 15-20 minutes from each other. Drive west on I-85 for about 1 hour and you can see Wake Forest, drive about another hour west and you can see Wofford, then drive another 30 minutes to see Furman. Another 30 minutes west and you can see Clemson. Then drive another 1.5 hours to Atlanta and you can see Ga tech and Emory. Fly back home from ATL. Thats a good 2 day trip, Chemistry is a great major at Furman and they are just completing a $60mil dollar science building and renovation. In the south, Furman is the 3rd ranked LAC per US News. As far as the campus, its second to none. The city of Gville is about 6 miles away and it has a great downtown area. FU works alot with Clemson to share resources
