Furnished apts in good location

3 of us (all freshman right now) are considering an off campus apartment for next year. We are looking for at least 2 bedrooms, if not 3, in a safe and convenient area. We are looking for an apartment that is at least partially furnished. Any suggestions?

BTW, our first choice is Ruskin, but our lowest lottery number is 983. I'm afraid we won't get Ruskin and I'm not sure where to go next.

Thanks!

Would you consider a suite at PA Hall or Panther Hall? As a sophomore, DS was able to snag a suite at PA Hall.

Kef - when did you receive your lottery number?

It was actually in my mailbox on the evening of Dec 15th. I live in Tower C. My friends that lived there also received theirs, as well as two friends who live in Holland.

Thanks! I think my daughter has checked her mailbox twice this semester - and that was only when she was told something was mailed to her.

My daughter found her apartment through Craig’s list. Pitt housing also has lists. I would stick with landlords that havegood reviews with housing. My daughter did not look at furnished places however.

Safe & Convenient is the edge of South Oakland, or North Oakland/the edge of Shadyside. If you consider buses convenient, also look at Squirrel Hill and deeper Shadyside.

Partially furnished will be harder. A lot of places just don’t do it, unless you are subletting, or the person before you decides to sell their furniture to you. Honestly, not knowing where the furniture has been or who used it, you’re better off either ordering for delivery from IKEA or getting furniture from someone in Pittsburgh on Craigslist who can deliver to the apartment.

I’d recommend looking at listings on Craigslist. Something I have heard from multiple people is to avoid anything from Lobos management.

I would recommend Forbes Management. I live in one of their buildings now and have been very satisfied with my experience. Also, their properties are on the nicer end of Oakland living. It is pretty difficult to find apartments already furnished, but I was able to find furniture pretty cheap. You’d also be surprised at how much old stuff family and friends could give you!

My daughter lived in a Meyers Management apartment for a year, and it was fine. It wasn’t furnished, though.
