Do you guys know anything about the Andover class placement test? What and when will I receive for the test? Do you guys know anything about it?
And btw, keep your grades up! I received an email saying that they want our final grades:)

Hey, I’ve been wondering the same thing! I was told that the placement tests come sometime in May by my shadow day guide. I think you just get a math test and a language test. The math one is apparently very long, and the most frequently given advice is not to cheat on it, because it wont be fun for you next year.
I’ve been looking forward to getting them all spring! Any time now :D

Hey, new students!! I’m a current lower at Andover.

You will receive a language exam, a math exam, and an optional music exam.

The language exam is actually pretty fun. The instructions are basically “answer these in an interesting way!” which resulted in my writing about Jupiter, cupcakes, and chocolate milk. I recommend, if you are a freshman or a new lower, aiming for the 200, 220, or 300 level language classes, unless you are proficient in that language already.

As for math, there are multiple sections that deal with math of varying subjects and difficulty. The recommendation is that you only complete the sections in which you have taken a full year of that subject. HOWEVER, from what I’ve heard from friends, fill out what you know. Do you love math? Have you studied calculus on your own? Fill out the calculus section, even if you haven’t taken it as a formal class. You’ll be way ahead of the curve if you like the class, and you can always drop down a level.

Music is basic music notation and rhythms, from what I remember. Not anything particularly difficult!

Feel free to message me if you have any questions about Andover life, dorms, or classes!! Congrats on your acceptance!

Thanks, cassat, that is extremely helpful!

When do you think they will come??

They come mid-May or early June, I forget. You still have a little time to wait, unfortunately!

What are the dorms like? I’ve been dying to know… I didn’t do a real tour of Andover, just walked around, because while we were out on the East Coast (I live in CA) we just decided to visit and it just happened to be Andover-Exeter day so no tours were available I know a lot of people want doubles, but how big are the doubles? And do you know when we will get the housing questionnaire? Sorry for all the questions… but I’m VERRRY curious and oh so excited!! :D

The dorms vary in nearly every aspect. Some only house 4 people, some house 40. Some are beautiful converted residential houses, others are, if I’m being honest, not the nicest in the world. (Think mid-70’s architecture.) The doubles are pretty average in size, and if you’re an incoming freshman, they will most likely be one-room doubles, meaning your roommate’s bed will be in the same room as yours. With this year’s overenrollment problem, if you want a double, you will DEFINITELY get one.

You will get the housing questionnaire in June or during the summer, I don’t really remember when. If you want advice on which dorm to request (it makes a huge difference!), or if you have any other questions (or if you just want to chat!!), feel free to PM me.

(Sorry I’m butting in on the new-student thread…)

I heard that the 9th grade girls’ dorm in Flagstaff has only six girls… does that mean that every year there are only six girls per grade in Flagstaff? Or do new students go to Flagstaff?

I actually just got the housing questionnaire yesterday, April 27! A lot earlier than expected :)

Guys, just wanted to let you know that I received the Andover Course Package today. I live within an hour from Andover. Included was a ton of stuff, but the math placement test is online and we will be able to take that once we get our PA Net username. Just letting you guys know that you will probably be receiving them shortly, although, Jeweled Horses, I got my housing questionare early in April!

Omg omg omg omg
i live half a mile away from andover. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!
currently running to check mail why is my driveway so long!!!
Im so good at concealing excitement.

Hi! Did you notice if it was overnight mail (like the acceptance package) or regular mail?

regular mail

Yay! I got it too!

hey i just finished that math placement test. It was very challenging even though I only did the first 45 since i have only had Algebra I and Geometry. Does anyone have any idea how many you need to get right to get into precalculus.

If you’ve noted that you’ve completed geometry (with proofs) and algebra, then you will most likely be in a pre calc class. Depending on how well you do on the pre calc, you will be placed into math 300, 320, 330, 350, 360, or 380. Most will either go to 320, 330, or 380. They never tell you which ones you did get right/wrong, and you should be doing this on your integrity (you’re already in! this is for YOUR placement). If somthing is too hard/easy, the department can allways move you up/down.

Thanks swimdude and I promise I did it honestly and I don’t think I missed many at all.

Ando about geometry we did a few proofs but mainly focused on the math, however I know how to do proofs.

Also not ando
