What nationality are u and where r u from???

I did watch it, but it was really long ago. Maybe I should re watch. & I’m from New York. How about others?

California

Nice to meet you too inosheir!!! I love theater too. A lot of people have Inception as their favorite film. Was it the special effects? the awsome concept? or the Leo? lol :D

I am American. i normally live in Michigan but this year I am living in Germany. California and New York, how cool. I’ve been to both and really enjoyed myself in both states.

@inosheir What sports do you play? What arts do you participate in?

@mescudihippo I love creative writing too. Do you love/do all creative writing or a certain genre like fiction or poetry?

@zonade it was definitely all 3 combined, haha. the plot was thick with unexpected twists and turns, and leonardo decaprio and joseph gordon-levitt were great to hear and look at  I do short stories generally, and I read a lot of them too.

@mescudihippo Hahaha, leo is getting a little old though. I also still don’t know whether the end was reality or a dream. I thought that was the best part of the movie though, even if I really don’t like not knowing.

My favorite genre is fiction, especially writing in the first person. Its really fun to try on another life for a bit and then take it off. It reminds me of acting. What is your favorite short story?

Boy or girl and what year they are going into?

Wow another new sophomore. This may sound weird but its nice to know I wont be going in as a new sophomore.

Do you guys want double or single rooms?

@martay0 Did you enjoy Les Mis? I played a lot of the play’s music on the piano this year which was fun. You do theater, have you seen the play?

B

@ matay

Nice to meet ya! Im from southern cali. U?
Im glad to here that smones also giving up the beautiful weather for a bs haha

It seems like many ppl are interested in theater which is amazing

@zonade

I wud like a double for bonding w. Others even tho singles maybe more convenient
At times. But having Roommates is exciting !

Best that you should have a single if you’re bringing your Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir! ;)

^win. (:

10 char

@ everyone I made a typo, I meant to say “This may sound weird but its nice to know I wont be going in alone as a new sophomore.”

@ kraordrawoh Haha actually I was planning on getting a double so I can bring Johnny Depp with me, lol jk.

I think I would want a roommate the first year, but afterwards I would probably go “single.”

What languages are y’all planning to take? I am planning on German, unless I flunk the placement test  then I may start a different Language.

zonade, my son, who is in the Class of '12 at THS, currently takes German. When he went to Hotchkiss last year, he had only one year of this language. He was pretty awful at it. During his first year at THS, however, he became nearly fluent and scored high enough in certain national tests to receive an offer to study in Germany last summer (which, for various reasons, he didn’t accept). He is now pretty much fluent in German primarily because, I think, his classes are quite small (there are only 3 students in his German III class this year), the students speak only German in class and his teacher is first rate.

Welcome to the Hotchkiss family!

WOW!!! Thanks for the info toombs. I have had one year of formal german, and have lived in Germany for the past two years (attending a German school part time). I contacted Herr Dittmer and he seems really nice, and to love his subject. Maybe I’ll see your son on campus next year.

@zonade, Yes, I loved Les Mis! It’s taken me half a year to get halfway through the book (I started it in September…it’s March now…we haven’t even met big Marius yet…), but I really want to finish it before we get to Hotchkiss. And yes, I’m in the musical at my school right now (only as additional beggar/mailman/onlooker, but you gotta start somewhere)! We have our band playing for us too, and they sound great.

@inosheir, I’m from the Bay Area, around San Francisco. And I’m so glad we have so many theatre people! What stuff do you do? Contemporary? Shakespeare? Musicals?

I think I’d want a double for next year, but will probably want my space as an upper mid and senior.

I’ve been taking French in school for the past two years, and want to continue with it.

Since a lot of us on this thread are sophomores, I was just wondering why you’re coming in now. Personally, I didn’t know about boarding schools in the US until this year, but I’d be interested to see other people’s reasons.

Are y’all going back for revisit days? What classes do you want to take? Which English are the new lower mids going into, the humanities or the regular English?

@martay0 I applied last year and was wait-listed at all the schools (including Hotchkiss) I applied to, except Andover which rejected me. The opportunities are just so great though, so I applied again this year, and, as you probably guessed. . . I got in!!! lol. Hotchkiss was my favorite school though so I am very very happy at the moment. I hope you finish the book soon and love it as much then as you do now.

zonade, you sound like a German scholar in the making. Yes, Herr Dittmer is first rate. (Looks like you have done your homework, which is another mark of a scholar!)
