Career: a doctor, or writer, or teacher(either teaching science or english lit.)

Major: either Neurobiology, biochemistry, or English Lit

Reason: I have two diverse passions: writing and science. In the future, I will pursue my scientific interests (hopefully, becoming a doctor). However, writing is a part of me that I can't neglect. Ultimately, I hope my future will include me becoming a doctor and a writer.

I envision myself as a doctor because of my love of science. To me, the most complex organism in the world is the human being. Learning about how we as humans, especially the brain, operate, biologically and phsychologically, brings a sense of control and understanding that is not given by most careers. Unlike chemists, biologists, etc., doctors contribute to gaining more of an understanding about people by their own efforts(research, teaching, etc.) and are on the recieving end, directly applying newly-learned concepts about the human body to their patients in the hospitals. They have the chance to work in the lab and hospital, playing a major role in each. Sure, I do not expect to be a miracle worker, or change the world through some revolutionary discovery, or have the best life in the world, but, as a doctor, I am not JUST an observer. I am an active participant who will make decisions that matter, affecting the lives of others.

Writing is an art form that takes many forms. You can reach many through it. It gives me a chance to express myself and develop my thought process. When I write, I feel calm. It's like I'm in my own world. As a child, I loved to read. To an extent, I still do but my choice of reading is more discriminant. The transe( I think I spelled this wrong) the words on those pages had was so strong and effective. One day, I want my writing to achieve that same effect.
