Hi, im a freshmen right now in highschool. I'm hoping to attend berkeley after i graduate from highschool. I'm into business and i heard that berkeley has the best undergrad for business, at least in california. Do you guys have any other colleges that you think i might like? Are there anything specific i could do to raise my chances of getting in? Anything will help. Thank you

stop worrying about specific colleges now. just work on taking advanced courses, keeping your GPA up, and not getting too stressed out untill senior year!

calvin, about your stocks and business interest question. Try to get an internship in a local business or something. I'm sure many companies/businesses would love to have a student intern.

I also agree that it's too early to start looking for colleges. Comes back in a year or two with ideas about what you are looking for in terms of size, location, etc etc. Don't stress too much during high school and don't forget to have fun.

Too early man. Never thought about college in my freshman year. I was just worrying about feeling comfortable in a bigger environment and getting used to the tougher coursework from Jr. high.

Best advice is to not worry or think about it until end of your sophomore year b/c you'll probably change your mind before then a couple times.

I agree, don't worry for at least another two years. Get good grades and join ECs that interest you.

yeh, I really don't want to come off as blatant, but get the hell out of here. Enjoy your life for now. Join some ECs and keep a good GPA score. If you can get into as many honors and AP classes as you can. Do some summer college courses once your in junior year. But right now enjoy life, go skinny dipping and have fun. Its too early for you to worry about college.

what's an internship?

woah fast replies. okay ill make sure to have fun haha. i have a girlfriend too so im not like always stressing out about college. OH and, i kinda messed up my first semester grade. I have As in CDRO/Health, Cross Country, and Biology regular, but Bs in Geometry Honors, English Honors, and japanese 2. =/ do you think thatll effect me much? I'm pretty sure i can get straight As the rest of my highschool career.

Haha, it's hard to simply ASSUME you're going to be getting straight A's in classes like Calc BC and Physics C when you can't manage one in Geometry, but it's certainly possible.

Don't worry about straight A's. Concentrate on getting the best grade you can in classes. I've had B's many times for quarterly grades, but only ended up with one B as a final grade, and, ironically, it was calculus.

An internship is "any period of time during which a beginner acquires experience in an occupation, profession, or pursuit" - dictionary.com

Some are paid and some are not. Regardless, it's a good opportunity to work in fields you may want to pursue later, such as business.

The best advice I can give to a freshman is to chose a few EC's you really enjoy, and put a LOT of time into them over the next four years. That's the one thing I wish I had done as a freshman. Consistency and dedication to a few important things is definitely valued in admissions. And it doesn't hurt to choose something unique, either.

Good luck and have fun.

Berkeley is not the the best at business for undergrad (or MBA). Wharton at Penn is the best undergrad business program followed by Sloan at MIT, Stearn at NYU, Ross at Michigan, the Haas at Berkeley (the last 3 are pretty equal though).

If Berkeley is your first choice even though it is not the absolute best at business, you shouldn't worry about freshman year grades because they are dropped when calculating your UC GPA.

oh, i meant in california berkeley's the best. Some people me that UC's look at your freshmen grade and some tell me they don't. I'm confused. How do you calculate the UC GPA? Oh and i just messed up my grades this semester cuz i was really spending a lot of time reading annual reports and investment books. I just found out that college would be really important. Im came on CC to mainly to see what i should not do in highschool, but i guess i started being interesting in what i should do too heh.
