Future Dentist/Hygienist Help

I'm currently a Jr. attending a very large and competitive school. I plan on trying to becoming a Dentist or Dental Hygienist, or maybe a pharmacist or a P.E. teacher/coach.

Most likely 4 year basketball (3 year varsity, 2 years Captain on Varsity)
Interact Club 2 Years
CSF (1 1/2 years)
Lion Dance Club at school (President, 1 year)
Lion Dance team outside of school (5 years)

GPA: 3.20ish (10-12 NO P.E.)
SAT I & II: In progress

I'm wondering what UC's and CSU's should I apply to and what are my chances of getting into there?

PE teacher/coach is a lot different from the rest, lol.

Your gpa isn’t that great, so you should apply to lower UCs like Irvine

Just to give you an idea of the competition: University of Florida Dental School had 1800 applications for about 80 openings last year. There are 2 Dental Schools in Florida (one public, one private) in a state that has around 18 million people.

^he has time in college to improve. Plus, some of the larger dental schools have incoming gpas of 3.3 so its not too hard. Plus, people apply to multiple dental schools, not just in their state…

Dental school is competitive to get into, no doubt. However, it is not based on the high school GPA of the candidate, so no worries yet. Get good research experience, establish relationships with faculty, do well in your classes and gain some clinical experience. On a side note, I don’t think that a traditional four year bachelors is necessary to work as a dental assistant.

Not too hard? This is a “larger” dental school. Where do you think the other 1720 people end up?

if your goal is to become a dentist, go to the college at which you will:

1) get the best grades
2) have the best opportunities for research
3) have greatest access to professors
