no, not yet...the club applications that we're supposed to fill out aren't out yet...probably within the next couple of weeks. yeah i do live in the bay area :)...i hope it works out...i'm pretty excited.

i don't think there's an official national support for this club, is there?

i don't think so...^

i turned in my application...waiting for it to get "approved"
so excited :)

did you guys write a constitution for this club, if so can you email to me?

seconding that request

you guys should make your own constitutions that pertain to your own clubs...the only reason i say this is because my school's requirements for constitutions may be different from yours. have fun with it! tell about all the great things you'll achieve in yours. i'm having so much fun with preparing my club so far...can't wait till our first meeting.

can i see y'alls const? i'm sort of..."lost"

sorry, don't have mine on the computer...my vp has it..i'll ask her.

anyways, we have a club fair coming up and we're supposed to sell something that preferrably relates to our club...what do you think my club should sell? my mom suggested sugar-free gum, health bars, etc...that kind of thing :) lol...any ideas? also, any recruitment suggestions?

Sugar-free gum? Health bars? How much more boring could you get?

You've gotta come up with something alot more origional than that (or your mom for that matter).

Why don't you sell some morphine or other drugs to the public, now that would be fun. Hell, if you get arrested you could tell the cops that they were FDA approved (Future Doctors of America).

Maybe you should change that name, also, to something more origional. So that its not an acronym that's already being used...

thanks, you cynical bastard.

now how about some USEFUL suggestions...i realize that my brainstorming ideas were kind of bland..but that's why i'm asking for help.

:)

ironically, this year my school's club sold krispy kreme donuts (since we wanted to raise money for our club and they are popular). everyone was joking about how the physicians wanted more patients by selling such fatty food :P

for suggestions--maybe sell fruit cups? or sliced watermelon really cheap (a quarter a slice) is a good idea (i've tried it before and it's an okay seller) especially if the day is going to be hot where you are located

hi guys, actually I just had a great idea and I was wondering if anyone wanted to support me on this initiative.

NewDra24's comment and also seeing the popularity of the FDA or FPA clubs sparked me to think: I WANT TO START A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION!

pm me/email me (there's a function to do that) if you're interested and I can start drafting some stuff.

wow, watermelon is a good idea...fruit cups are ok too..the problem is i have ZERO ideas that relate to my club, so ANY ideas are good right now, thanks...i really like my gum idea, though :)

BTW, I'm TOTALLY interested...this is me saying yes on this thread. count me in.(i didn't pm you :) btw, why is making it national important?

haha thanks drsarah! well I know that there are hundreds of thousands of high schoolers that are interested in becoming doctors so I think there is a real need for some place/organization that could consolidate all the resources/etc for these students. plus it would totally create support for small clubs (which is important) and provide a place to go for activities/ideas

I'm just thinking a national org could provide conferences, speakers, networks of doctors in all areas (because doctors would be really excited to support a large organization vs. just a small 10 member club for example..), mentors (both college pre-med students, current med students, and doctors) among many other potential activities.

I really think the mentoring aspect could become big after a few years. Everyone passing through the FPA organization could sign up as a mentor and give advice to people all over the country and be paired up with high schoolers in their area/college students in their area/or even at their same college (e.g. juniors/seniors in college mentoring frosh/soph)

drsarah--what kind of role do you think you'd like to take in implementing this? at the moment I'm mass emailing all the FPA presidents I know/can find about this idea :)

any role..i guess..not sure how you're going to make it 'national'...:) i already have speakers coming into my club...pretty exciting, just don't know how to recruit members.

tip #1 from Sarah==> mybrochuremaker.com is pretty sweet for flyers. :)

BUMP:

Had first meeting Thursday...10 members showed up which was pretty exciting...I heard more people were talking about it, adn they just didn't show b/c they weren't sure of locations...I already have a publicist working on a website. this is pretty awesome.

bump bump bump

had 50 ppl roughly at meeting excellent

i wannna start one at my community college. what's a nice name. Pre-Med Club? Future Doctors of America Club (FDA)?

either that or

Pre-Dental Club, Future Dentists of America Club (FDA)

...we are all soooo getting into either med school or dental school.

we did FPA..not FDA ...fda sounds like food and drug admin
