We are all familiar with the weeks/yr and hrs/week information on the common/universal app as well as the fields for achievments. Since many will be applying ED in November, I have 2 specific questions about my EC’s.

I have played baseball throughout my high school career, both at the JV and Varisty level and will do so once again for my senior year. Being one of two returning seniors on the team, it is common knowledge that I will be a captain (our school never has underclassmen as captains for baseball). So my question is that, since i will apply in November (several months before the season starts), would it be appropriate to list this as an achievment for the senior year?

Also, every summer until the current one, i have been involved in baseball and had little time to do extensive community service. Since I opted to not participate in baseball this summer, I have begun to volunteer at the local foodbank and am really devoted. I work about 12 hrs/week, every week and plan on continuing to put in significant hours after school begins and all the way until baseball season starts. Since my application is once again due in November, can i count the weeks after November, leading up until baseball season, in the weeks/yr column? The difference would be stating 12hrs/week for 16 weeks/yr vs. 30 weeks/yr approximately.

I know that these small discrepancies wouldnt make or break my application but in my opinion, they would fairly represent me. On the other hand, I would never want to be thought of as misrepresenting info. Thanks, hope that wasnt too confusing.

Using future weeks in the weeks / year shouldn’t be a problem, but I wouldn’t list yourself as captian yet. Maybe make a note that you are potential future captain or something, but don’t stimply state that you’re the captain.

1) How would listing co-captain ameliorate the obvious immorality of the response?

I wouldn’t put any form of captaincy until you have actually gained the position. Besides, the other senior may gain the captaincy and you’ll be SOL if that happens lol.

azngod- There will not be one single captain so im not “in the running” so to speak. I should have been more clear, to say that I will be co-captain as the other senior will also, of course be a captain. And the coach I guess officially chooses, but usually by senior year it is clear who they will be. There is no voting, etc. I was just curious, as I said in my first post I want to make sure that I don’t do anything that is “immoral” as some have said.

I wouldn’t recommend it. I did the same with my club which really scares me now. UC apps has a section for community service that has # hours/week and #week/year and then you select the year you did the activities in. I was in Chinese club for 9th grade and did at least 25 hours(from club meetings to activities). I joined the Chinese club for 12th grade at the beginning of the year. I went to some meetings(about 3-4 hours), but I didn’t do 25 hours at the time i filled out my apps. Since I already at least did 25 hours for 9th grade. I put down 1 hour/week, 25 week/year and 9th/12th grade. I thought since I was already in the Chinese club for 12th grade, I would be able to stay in the club and do the activities and make the hours(requires 15ish hours for each semester to be an active member). But when my college apps was finished I slacked off(after 4 years of SAT schools and lots of extra classes I only thought of freedom when my college apps finished) and failed to complete the hours I wrote down for 12th grade. Now I’m fearing everyday that I might get rescinded for a stupid mistake like that…

Maybe you can get the coach to confirm it before you apply, explaining the situation to him, Otherwise I agree with the candidate for team captain idea.
