Future ED Applicant

Hello! My dream school is Northwestern University, but I'm unsure about my chances. I was wondering if you could "chance" me or also make recommendations for other schools. I really want to go to NU, but I'm also realistic :) My dad and I will be visiting this month.

Hook: geography: I'm from Maine!

My test scores are low, but I do a lot of ECs that I think could help me as an applicant. I definitely think ED will help increase my chances, but what are your thoughts? I want to attend a large school and get out of Maine!

My other schools:

Johns Hopkins
UVa
Boston College
George Washington U
Bucknell
UConn

Your SAT score is on the lower bound of the range for NU, however do you have any prediction what you’re going to get for SAT IIs? It’s pretty uncertain to chance you if you can’t offer us your scores.

It also seems like you’re aiming a little too high. Schools like BC or JHU’s reaches.

Are you retaking SAT’s? Have you taken ACTs (some students do better on this test).

Realistically, with the SATs as they stand, NU is probably a reach school for you. However, assuming your college list has a number of “matches” and at least one true safety (i.e., you will get in, can afford it, and you would be willing to go there) why not apply.

Looking at your list – Johns Hopkins and UVA appear to be Reaches. BC and GWU – high match or low reach. Bucknell and UConn Matches, but honestly not sure things. I don’t see that I would consider a true safety.

One additional point, which you didn’t ask about – I’m not sure I understand your list completely. Consider Bucknell and George Washington. The schools are kind of opposites. Bucknell is small and very rural. (doesn’t meet your criteria for large school) George Washington, large-ish and urban. Both are excellent schools, but I’m not sure that I see both being high on a student’s list. So, I guess one question I’d ask is what is the ideal school for you as far as size, location, climate, urban/rural, potential major, etc. You should be able to find matches and safeties that are all close to your perfect school
